I was just playing with the idea to get one and was wondering if people could share some experiences.
I am not aiming to break Alex Caizergues' record, so I would be more after an entry level kind of thing. I usually have to ride in chop when tacking back upwind (Altona conditions), which should not become a major hassle.
I weigh 88kgs and use a 124x37 board ~40% of the time, so I kinda like small boards, but don't wanna have to fly a 12m in >25 knots in order to benefit from the speedie.

I don't want to spend a fortune on it, but the only production speed boards that I found are those from Xelerator and the twintip from Underground.

Cheers

you've got a bit of time up your sleeve it seems (at the beach a fair bit) so build your own:

1. make a simple rocker table
2. laminate a few sheets of 3ply of your desired outline with epoxy (don't need a vacuum bag, just sandbag them down to the rocker table as the resin sets)
3. cut final rail shapes and bevels
4. cut/drill holes then glue footstrap and fin inserts in
5. glass over the whole lot. 2 layers of 4oz should be fine (reo patches for inserts)
6. fill and paint
7. drill out glass covering insert holes
8. screw straps and fins on and ride

Cheers!
Unfortunately the good days with heaps of kiting time are coming to an end, so it's all about increasing the amount of quality time now

I thought about a custom board, as a twintip would probably be the best compromise for me. However the one from Underground looks damn tiny, it is just 27cm wide and not 37cm as the website states.
So far, the only tools in my Tim Taylor garage are a set of screwdrivers...

If somebody wants to run a board building workshop for newbies again, let me know
