I am the person you call "Tourist Kook"
You should change your name from "Fat Mike" to "Fat Lie";
1) "
decided to unhook"??? Chicken loop popped out of harness hook by accident during the launch and I explained it to you and you knew about it before you post here
2) "
ditch his kite while
standing next to his car"??? I've been asking that lady with the camera to ignore this incident (kite fell into her yard)
3) "
55knt mega front"??? there were ~10 wind surfers in the water and wind at 5:15 PM was 25-28 knots
4) "cadet decides this is the place to session
on his own"??? There was another kiter who helped me launch and took my kite out of their yard and I really owe him big time for his help
I know that this incident is my fault and there is no excuse but you are a sick person for coming here and lie about everything to make you self look smart and every one else like idiots.
If you need self confidence don't practice it on me.
Trent
Ok,
In an attempt to pull at least some resolve from this rant, I'll try to explain why I went into major involuntary brain-snap.
The location is a double edged sword. Great for learners from the waterline out, but also one of the most unforgiving and contentious from the high-water mark back. For no other reason than the insanely close proximity of a road and some rather large and costly houses.
To exacerbate the problem, one of the houses (as i understand it) neighboring the garden in which you crashed your kite happens to be owned by this person
http://www.janetwoollard.com.au/. The large number of residents unhappy with the practice of kitesurfing at this beach are in cahoots with said member of the legislative assembly. The lady taking your photo, upon doing so, will promptly forward images and specific details of your incident to the local MP and again strengthen their case for some unwarranted access reform at the beach. They are lobbying for an outright ban.
A large number of kiters have for some time now been doing their best to counter these efforts. Their tact, totally justifiable in my eyes, has been to demonstrate to the local council that we (ANY kiter using the location) are able to self-regulate and prevent serious injury. Be they a kiter, a resident, a driver, jogger, dog whatever.
As part of this solution they put the buoys in to keep kiters away from the road and it prevails among common sense that kiting in conditions that might increase the chance of you or your kite ending up on the road should possibly be avoided. This would, dare I be so presumptuous, include heavy winter fronts pushing dead on shore.
So when the Cott swell buoy is reading 2.6m, possibly the biggest i've witnessed in 15 years and Rotto has dead onshore gusts just nudging over the 50knot mark, seeing someone do exactly what everyone who ever goes to Melville does not need kind of flipped me off.
Other than a catastrophic lack of intuition, it's not your fault. The council was (apparently) going to install signs for kiters such as yourself explaining the suggested guidelines for safe kiting. Instead, as was shown in the photo, they installed the tiny warning signs to alert passing ants of the dangers of kookouts.
So at the end of the day, no ones the wiser. Residents still take their photos and lobby away, and kiters still have no idea of whats going on.
It would be nice to see
some real locals (hell I live in Albany) anyone, show some ownership here and not treat Melville like the village bike or the girl next door...
