Since I got a Sector 60 my big kites never get used. When I buy a new quiver I might consider a Chrono as a light wind toy. There's something beautiful about a sleek foil slicing through the air.

I have to agree with the other posters, if Ozone improved their bars then I would consider Ozone kites for a new quiver. Push away quick release, soft bar ends and a fully enclosed depower and safety line would do it. In short, rip off the Cabrinha bar system.

We did some testing with the bar and soft ends and performance wise the current bar ends work better. you have more direct feel and steering response.

I used to damage my board with bar ends as well but when you get more time on the board it doesn't happen anymore. Also little dings in top deck are annoying but don't really matter, put a little bit of epoxy on it and its all good :)

rumours are the Chrono Foils go really well on the course race board and hydrofoils- crazy upwind and downwind performance..

Time will tell people.. however, its very exciting news from Ozone for all of us :)

It has a very arc'd profile, similar to Flysurfer, or the Zebra 1 even. Hmmm this is very exciting. Price will be pretty high I'd expect though.

crazy upwind ill believe. ....crazy downwind? Crazy bad perhaps. Well unless they have reinvented the laws of physics. A high aspect foil like that is i about as bad as you can get downwind.

To be fair high aspect foils are not for going down wind. they are for milking as much upwind as possible.

Meh. The name may have been used before, but this Ozone beast is totally hew and about time too.
Actually i was eyeing the Flysurfer Peak until now.

Looks a bit pricey $3,449 for the 18m (with bar), but I am still curious. Would this be a good option for a light wind kite? I know there might be issues with relaunching, but could be ok if I try not to crash it Would this work with Ozone Edge bars or would I need to buy a new bar?

Man I been keen to see a great kite company produce a foil type race spec kite. I predict big things for this set up - this is going to blow LEI out of the water . I smashed 2 board decks with my bar ends last month, flying edge's. It's just part of kiting - fix it and get back out there.

I'll be getten on the Crono ASAP. Will be good to throw away the pump as well.

Everyone has their opinion and for the style of riding I do this is mine.

Big soft bar ends create problems I've said it before but I will say it again, I've seen many dangerous situations with pro riders catching a line on the big soft bar end and getting looped uncontrollably into the beach... I've seen it happen on Cab, LF and Best all of which have similar stupid looking bar ends. I don't want that happening to me so naturally I'm against them.

Guess what, Slingshot has had the same bar ends since 2003... is this a problem?

My ideal bar end would be one you can't even wind the lines on, it would be a lot safer and probably even save some people from death... Kite companies wont do it though because most kiteboarders are so stuck in their ways that they probably couldn't even fathom the idea that you can just wind your lines around the middle of the bar and it's the exact same thing.

Rant out.

I agree with you. The bar ends are a problem when I try and self-land. If the kite looks like it's about to take off again, I let go of the lines (attempting to pull down the LE into the wind) and suddenly the lines are all over the bar ends! Argghhh. I quickly release them but it's a hit & miss situation.
However wouldn't the lines get all twisted wrapping the lines down the middle of the bar? Do you have a specific technique for doing it, or just wrap em like round-n-round?

Nope, you just figure 8 the lines on either side of the chicken line just the same as you would around the bar ends. Why would it get anymore tangled than usual? I used to do it all the time and if anything it's actually quicker than on the bar ends because you don't have to be at all precise. As an added bonus your lines don't slip off in transport and get in a big knot.

I actually disagree with you rowdy. the few times I've used Ozones I've experienced that ****ty death loop situation FAR more times than I ever have when i used LF or on my current best kites.. and I've used both LF and Best significantly more than I have Ozone. Also had problems at the school on occasions with leashes grabbing the bar ends or similar situations where the line locks down. I think it's more to do with the angle the end has that actually funnels anything that hits the outer edge towards the steering line instead of away.

I do agree with the no ends at all idea, similar to wake handles like what you had set up a few years back. Surely kite companies can work on creating catch free bar ends or even more low profile bars at that! seeing the general trend between most companies is make the bar ends bigger and bulkier every season.

Have a look at the new Switch kites bar then, no big soft bar ends just rubberised the normal impact points....point is I guess soft doesn't have to mean big....

Also as you mentioned I have created custom bars in the past that I have never had this issue with, it would be cool if companies could just make a bar designed for handlepasses that gives you a safer setup.

That said yes the rubberised bits aren't that soft, but imo it's good to see someone taking a different approach, though admittedly it's just a different set of compromises.

I was merely commenting on the fact that if you want them really soft (like some do) there is no way they can really be small. Switch bar ends aren't what I would call small, nor do they do anything different to say SS which have been running rubber over the ends since 2005... Rubberised ends are all right but they don't give what most want from a soft end which is protection for their surfboard decks (something I don't care about).
