No me but only kiting a few years. How old/well used was the gear? Did the bar give any indication of impending doom, creaking, flexing etc?

I think the bar is about 6 years old I've had it just over 2 it's has hardly been used this season I bought a new 12 m in September and used that mostly but it was pumping early yesterday so I used the 9 I didn't notice any probs or differences with the bar it just went on the way back in

could you fly it in? kind of like riding one of those foil "handle" kites, but with the chciken loop still connected? or did it all come a cropper....

hopefully it wasn't mid-boost!

The kite was flat in the water wasn't sure what the problem was til I got back to shore
I was still attached so I just pulled my way up centre lines I had done a few small jumps earlier but thankfully not at the time

I saw this happen to a guy with the same bar a few years ago. The guy was quite far off shore when it happened. He told me it was second hand so not sure how old it was.
