I'm new to this forum so I can't post photos (or links) of my issue. However, there is another thread out there that has an image of my exact equipment break.

Anyway.. i just bought a 2nd hand kite setup (2008-9 slingshot rev 9m) and on the first take off the plastic chicken loop chassis completely snapped. Luckily the kite landed on a clean sandy patch, rather than the rock wall just 5 metres behind it.

The OP from that 2014 thread had some luck in getting a replacement (which I can't find from anywhere) and I was hoping I might have the same luck.

I didn't fully understand the mechanism before launching, so I missed that the bearing inside had seized up which could have also applied an extra shear force to the previously (2yrs) unused old equipment resulting in breakage (this part I can replace online).

It might end up being pricier to replace the two parts than just finding another cheap 4-line bar. Unless someone has one of these lying around that I could take off their hands?

The gear you have purchased is considered ancient by modern standards.

Just guessing that you're a learner and on a budget? Not only old gear will make it harder to learn on (there are far more user friendly kites than that now) but you should seriously consider getting a modern bar with a modern safety system.

If this is the bar you have, that quick release system is seriously outdated and dangerous.

Since 2020, all kite bars on the market have to pass the same ISO standards : www.gkakiteworldtour.com/isostandard-21853-quick-release/ Safety is really important when you get in trouble you want to be able to activate the chicken loop QR instantly, which could save you from serious injuries and worse.

The value of your gear (Kite+bar) is very low and now close to zero with a broken bar. If your kite isn't already leaking it will soon as old valves were glued on and peel off / crack with age even if the kite was not used for many years.

Do yourself a favour, learn safely, easily and in confidence, get a modern beginner friendly kite and a safe modern bar. Doesn't have to be brand new. Don't buy second hand gear without expert advice and a expert kiter inspecting the gear with you prior to purchase. Another option is to buy second hand gear from a reputable kite shop, you'll typically pay a little more but will have peace of mind, good advice to find the correct gear and support / spare parts in case you need to service your gear.

Hahahahha thanks a lot for the info. I knew it was pretty out dated and shabby, but I didn't know it was that bad. I actually have another kite (airush) which is in much better condition with a proper safety system. My gf and I have learnt on this one after taking a 3hr lesson. We have been up and riding and decided it was time to get another kite... 9m for her.

Fingers crossed on the health of this slingshot kite. Seller claimed all valves had just been replaced... Idk definately a budget kite.

I have contacted someone this morning to purchase a newer bar with modern safety systems for pretty cheap. So I think I'll be going with that.

The valves weren't glued on they were attached with double sided tape mate.. get your fact's right expert!

Contact Adam at The Kite Loft in Chinderah, he is just down the road from you. Adam can retrofit some Ozone parts to that bar and make it good again.
