With small kites you tend to jump high and come down hard. Some are twitchy and not stable.
My question is on selecting a kite with more hang time and stability. Possible or not, will be interesting read your thoughts. p.s I’m 65kg and ride a 128 Nobile if relevant.
All small kites drop you hard, you need to fly the kite in the air to soften your landing. I don't think I've tried a small kite that you can just leave in one spot with a soft landing.
Agree with Saffer, if it's hang-time and soft landings your after then it's more the size than how you use it no matter what lies the ladies try to tell you to protect your ego
But given you're on a smaller kite, a high aspect ratio flat foil (eg 6m Flysurfer Speed 2) will give you the best float. The Speeds are really designed for light wind - I think the smallest Speed 3 is 12m. My experience comparing a 6m Pulse 2 (Flysurfer) with a 6m LEI (Airush DNA) is that the hangtime and landings are better with the Pulse 2 - but not as good as with a Speed and certainly still nothing like a bigger kite.
You should try jumping a 3m Ozone Light II - that was like freefalling
I've seen the 6m Switchblade IDS do some floaty jumps - same with the 7m Core GT's... The deltas have all that area in the middle section so they float pretty well...
Yep - flatter profile smaller kites work well - I have a 2008 7m Rebel - when the wind gets up over 30kn it tends to be fairly gusty, and the flatter kites manage this better than the traditional "c" style.
