What exactly is the purpose of the fixed power ball shown in the picture below other than to stop the bar sliding up? Is there any issue or repercussions with removing it given that the active stopper will perform this function as well?

I believe it is to stop you from depowering the kite to the point of inversion

the power ball is there for a reason. this is where the famous ss bomber construction lies. take this away and your bar will fall apart in 2 weeks instead of 4. leave it on i say!

I think its there to stop your bar falling apart if the chicken loop rope snaps, its worth checking the screw that screws it onto the rope though, it has been known to be to short and when the rope did break it ripped it straight out and every thing fell apart, big mess

Have you guys had freyed / twisting of the rear bridals on your revs within a season?

It's definately there to stop you from depowering past that point.

Yeh the P lines that connect the front and rear lines by a pulley. If you get lazy with keeping your pulley in good condition, then they twist up. My 9m is still fine after a season, but the 13 is well overdue for a new pulley and P line.

Last years REVs were pretty hard on 'P' lines. I think it was pretty normal to go through 2 or 3 'P' lines and a rear pulley set in a season. REV2 are much better, I'm still on originals & season is nearly done although wear is pretty evident now. On the other hand the elastic flagging line at the bar seems to be wearing faster than last year & this year a spare didn't come with the kite. Could be a disaster if that line breaks at the wrong time.
The fixed stopper ball is meant to prevent over-depowering leading to inverting. Obviously it must work cause REVs don't invert. I'm a bit annoyed though. The chicken loop rope will always break right at the chicken loop entry. If only that ball was locked solidly onto the rope it would run out & catch at the stainless steel ring. Your bar would then sit at arms length but you could sail back to shore. If that badly designed sucker slips, which it usually does, the whole lot runs out & it's a tangly swim in.[}:)] The only good thing is that piece of crap is now at the bottom of the ocean where it belongs & by the next time this happens you will have found a replacement part that locks solidly. ie. The ball off the end of that donkey tallywacka that never gets used(sleeved with a section of the tube).
Normally Slingshot pay so much attention to the detail
This is learnt from my personal experience, have a good look at your fixed stopper, at least get a longer grubscrew & lock that thing up. And I do keep an eye on my gear but ropes still unexpectedly break.
cheers
