08 They needed to pull a rabbit out of the hat to restore their credibility & did with the REV.

2010 Now I can't imagine improvement on the scale of other even years, but who knows. I'd say they have significant developments on offer & want to set this model apart, & as 1) the name REV is very similar to RPM & 2) Octane had such a following, it's only logical to go back to Octane.
I like it.

My question would be, why bother with the Fuel any more?
Anyway, it makes life interesting.

And who really cares about the answers If it never gets better than the REV it'll still be all good to me.

I can't wait to get hold of a new one, I've still got my 06 14m and since then I have had over 7 different kites, I still can't bring myself to sell it. The Octane is like your favorite ex girlfriend, you know it's going to be good when ever you go back there. I had it out Saturday and still love it.

There is a new 7m in the country and got to have a look at it in the shop on Friday, I love the new bar, hoping to get a run on it soon.

I’m so keen to get an 11m; it should go well with my 14m RPM.

I think their whole delema started when the RPM became a better wave kite than the Rev because of its unhooked characteristics.

I would have jumped onto the RPM bandwagon but prefer the 9&13 combo and din't want to go larger to 10&14.

The Rev was supposed to be more Octane orientated with the kite generating lots of power from apparent wind. So the name suits, and it will probably generate a lot more hype than simply a REV3.

Romour has it that the new Octane jumps higher and floats longer than the Rev, so who knows? maybe they will market the new kite as the big air orientated, wave and freestyle kite.

I'm excited and were looking for something to replace my original Revs. Hopefully it works as good as it looks.

There is sooo much marketing BS about to be unloaded by the truck full.

E.g. "It has a unique ultra compact bridle .." yeh really? Well that makes about the 20th manufacturer to make that same claim over the last few years. A (not-so)unique claim indeed.

Interesting design, but I wouldn't be too keen until version 2 is out and has ironed out the bugs that version 1 owners paid for.

The Octane is version 3, not version 1. It's just a new/old name, not a completely new kite. It's the third year of evolution for a hugely successful kite. I wouldn't be too worried about any probs that need to be ironed out. I'm sure Slingshot have been testing the kite for a while and are very happy with it. I can't wait to try one.

Walshy you dont need a kite that boosts higher or floats longer youll never come down. You may want to take up paragliding.....lol.

Slingshot have decided to call the new kite OCTANE due to a few reasons. Firstly the changes on the REV2 would have been so large that to call it the REV3 would have been a mistake. 4 struts, different bridal, new bar....etc etc.

When they (Slingshot) stopped the original OCTANE they did so at a time when the BOW/SLE kite was becoming popular and everyone that knows the original OCTANE knew it was a great kite, hence the reason they called the new kite OCTANE.

Also saying this, the REV2 was a great kite and if they decide to bring back the REV in a few years the Slingshot punters wouldn't have a problem getting back on them.

So its the RPM as an all new option for waves & unhooked.
Its the Octane that is really the REV3 - but with more than expected tweaks.

But then if the Octanes are to be evens; 6 8 10 12; is it the 8 or 10 to replace the sweetest of em all 9M Rev.
Hoping like hell that the bottom end of the new Octanes is at least 1M better than Rev2. That would make the dream size down a notch to the 8M

I used to get all this hot inside news direct from the 'sorse'.
But now that hes off chasing snow bunnies I am left to wonder and guess.

Think I will have to go 12M Octane to replace my 13M REV first and see how we go from there.

And even if the Rev 3 didn't much much or at all I'd buy another one regardless. I change my kit over every year due to wear and tear etc so regardless of whether there are any improvements or not I'd still buy another one just because! Major improvments don't need to be made for me to buy another Rev as I was more than happ with the Rev 1 & 2.

Would have been nice if they kept the Rev even if they didn't make any major improvements to it.

what does it matter to Jordy what kite he gets next year ?- he has not been sighted at the beach for almost 6 months, he has a lady friend who locks him up like a gimp and doesn't let him out to play- or at least that is his excuse.

I would be keen to try the Octane- looks alright, personally I hated the rev- it was really hard to use the depower cleat and the centre hole always jammed on the rope when you went to sheet out.
