Now I think about it. I've seen face surfing before. Must have been a sewing web site because it was usually accompanied by lots of scissoring.

Not sure. I guess for when you want a resilient core.

2x 3mm sheets. So 6mm core.
Yep bamboo is heavy. But its strong as fark and has similar flex properties to carbon. Makes for s strong board with good flex properties.

Paulownia is the main timber manufacturers use, how come bamboo? Was it hard to come by? I've taken a couple of templates in mdf for when I have time to have a play about

is this bamboo flooring stuff?

Does it bother you that the fillers and binders in there optimised for flooring? I guess its just acting as a 'core', but in this case why not go for something lighter?

If you got the gear (vacuum bagging equipment) and going to spend on carbon why not go for PVC foam?

Cool design, love those inserts

Why bamboo?

A) I had some in stock!
B) It is way more resilient than Paulownia. I'm prone to smashing into stuff like boulders, drift wood, rocks. This will take a beating.
C) I like the flex properties of bamboo. That said, i've not run out of bamboo so the next board will be Paulownia.

Yes, it is bamboo flooring. At first, I worried about delaminating ply. But after 3 x kiteboards, 1 x landboard and 4 x longboard skateboards all made with the same bamboo ply and no delaminating I'm no longer worried.

Why not go for lighter? for the reasons listed above.

PVC foam doesn't have the impact resistance and the shear properties are worse. Yes, it would be lighter, but it wouldn't withstand a direct hit from a boulder without damage. Bamboo/carbon combo bounces off the boulder and keeps on rocking

Nope. 8years ago I bought several sheets for board building. At the time it was longboard skateboards and kite land boards. Iv'e made all the boards since with it. Oh, I fogot about the hydrofoil. That is also bamboo.

I have enough to make another set of hydrofoil wings and then i'm done. Need to procure more core material.

PVC is the good stuff. That's why it's used for helicopter rotor blades, jets, high performance applications where failure from puncture can be catastrophic.

Paulownia would also afford you a weight reduction of 67% and does not rot if exposed to water.

Your board looks sweet though!

Been away so not much further action other than a small blow out.

The peel ply I used didn't peel off. Argh! It was Some sort of new flash stuff recommended too me by the peel ply salesman that didn't work properly. Morrel of the story is dont trust salesman's bull****.

So I now I have hours of careful sanding to remove the peel only and no carbon.
