Just got back from a trip to Vietnam where we headed up to Mui Ne and met the guys at Storm Kiteboarding, based at the Sailing Club Resort. In my opinion if you ever think of heading across to this kiteboarding mecca I think these guys are the only crew to hook up with and stay. The resort itself is absolutely spotless - doesn't claim to be 5 star but it comes pretty close. It ranges from beachfront bures to cheaper accomodation coming back off the beach. For couples, this would have to be one of the best places to visit, especially if you have a non-kiter travelling with you. The pool area is well sheltered from the wind but your partner can still watch you kite as she's sipping on a cocktail. Food and bev prices @ the resort were comparable with the cheaper restaurants in the street, but of a better quality - you almost don't need to leave the resort at all. The guys at Storm Kiteboarding, owned by Scott, found nothing too much trouble, from arranging our transport from Saigon, to his team laying out the lines and pumping up your kites, launching and landing are all assisted by his staff. Loads of demo gear to try and just generally all round good guys.

We were there at the start of the season but still managed to kite 8 days out of 9 - wind speeds between 15-20kts - I took a 12 and a 9 Wainman and used both. Was also lucky enough to join in on a downwinder to Phan Thiet which was a highlight of the trip.

Happy to give you any info if you're thinking of heading over to 'Nam for a break. It's well worth the trip.

Just come back from there myself and second Wilfreds opinion. Top spot with very helpful staff. Only place to stay. If you're not carrying too much gear take the train from Saigon, it's about 4.5 hrs which is about the same as via road. It's way more relaxing and there's plenty of $1 cold beers available.

What were all the others like? I take it that you met everyone from all the other kite shops and you stayed at every other resort at least once to make an informed opinion. So go on, tell us what you did or didn't like about everyone else and all the other resorts!

I did contact those guys but I'm a baggy arse beginner so i don't blame em for not being too keen, I'll get em on the next trip.

On our second tour there, the wind shifted around and came onshore and dropped, so teaching would have been perfect there, but from what I've been told, its not the usual wind, and if it gets to its usual 20 - 30 knots, it can be dangerous. Downwind is reef, not just a sandy beach, if you go downwind you end up back on the beach at Mui Ne, not at Phan Rang, potential reef. Besides, I think Ant is aiming for the epic kiting in waves and as big as the area is, if it filled up with beginners it could be too congested.

Next trip for sure, well worth the effort!
