I know this has probably been discussed before but wanted to get some feedback on some of the QR systems on the latest kites. I have owned previous kites which flag out onto one line (ozone, north no pulleys) allowing the line to pull through up to the stopper ball half way up the lines killing the kite completely with the kite LE facing down into the wind, just like how you have it when your setting up on the beach. I have noticed some kite brands flag out onto two centre lines with a mini fifth line running up to the point where the centre lines attach/branch apart a couple of meters up the line. When you activate your QR on the system that flags out on two centre lines does it kill the kite the same as the the single line flag out and does it use pulleys to be able to achieve this. I was curious as I have seen a friends kite flagged out but the kite still seems to have power pulling him along while he was trying to self rescue, I'm not sure how his safety was setup but I thought this day and age that seemed a little average or is this done for a specific purpose.

The mini 5th setup is easier to rerig in the water (not sure why you would need to do this besides accidently releasing the kite)but like you said they can still hold power in the kite when deployed. They also need pulleys to allow enough change in the angle of attack.My preference is a single line system as there is less chance of the kite staying powered(unless the front lines are twisted). Self rescue seems easier and safer and most importantly it works better for launching off the back of a tinny.

How are you launching off the back of a tinny?!

The tinny launch while not that hard can be scary with lines flapping around catching on everything.
Anyway first attach your lines on the beach and pull your safety line through then wind onto the bar then wind all your lines together onto the bar. You will have 3 lines with 10m left and your safety right up to the bridle. Connect your chicken loop to the pump leash on the leading edge to stop the bar going through the lines, roll it all up. Once in tinny inflate kite, remove bar from leading edge and connect chicken loop to leash on transom and place kite in water then unwind all your lines as the kite drifts back. You can then unwind the tail of the safety line and connect your leash to it and start letting that out and you are ready to launch.
