Hi I did a search but can't find it...a few months ago there was a thread that had a super fast high speed camera with ludicrous frame rates...does anyone know what the camera was or have the link? thanks

I have one, can do 1-60 fps at max pic size (6mp I think). Photos come out pretty good, just takes a bit of practice to get right. Can do max of 60 photos, so 1 second at 60fps, 2 seconds at 30fps etc etc.

does pretty good HD video as well, at the faster frame rates the video size gets pretty small....and you need a lot more light.

Really awesome to see every second of a move, but more of a novelty. If I were to get a new camera it would be a DLSR. 5-7 FPS is all you really need.

Have you guys thought of getting a video camera instead? I got mine only recently, mainly for the dirtbike, but can also use it while kiting too. It's way better than the GoPros too.

Yeah Casio has a whole range of cameras that can do up 1200 FPS. Yeah 1200... thats not a typo. They are crazy cool. They can even join pictures together with out using software afterwards. like this picture below, Okay i did this in photoshop because i don't own the camera but on some of the Casio's it will do this for you on the camera!!!! CRAZY cool features. The faster the FPS the lower the quality is though. It is actually recording all the time so when you press the shutter button it recoreds before you pressed it to allow so many FPS. You an choose where is starts from i think or something like that. I saw a guy with a slim casio and he showed me some of the features of the camera.
I think i made this picture huge... sorry about that. This was a Nikon D90 @ 4.5fps and joined in Photoshop of course....

If you're happy with 25 (PAL) or 30 (NTSC) fps, just shoot high quality video and grab your frames after.

The availability of photoshop type stitching software and camera size, etc may affect your decision tho.

I just purchused an olympus E-30, 5 frames a second 12.3 megs still working it out but it takes some great pic's

Everyone should know that before you buy a new camera...... its not the camera which takes good pictures its you. Any fool can take the same picture with any camera. Its trying to make it different and catchy which is the hard part and the part which is important.

Hi All Id like to ask a few other question. I'm Currently think of buying another camera I have an Olympus u1050sw That I really like because of the interesting angles you can get form the water, But I'm finding it Quite Limiting because of the 3x zoom and the white balance under Fluoro light is is quite difficult to get right.

I was Thinking of getting a SLR like the Nikon D3000 or a Canon EOS 1000D with a lens like 18 to 200. But these options are a bit expensive around $1000 for a two lens kit Or $1500 with a single large Zoom.

I recently found the FujiFilm Finepix S200ERX. I like this Camera for two reasons
1 Its the only compact camera that shoots RAW images I have found with a good zoom range= 30mm to 400m on a 35mm camera
2 You can screw filters to the end element of the Lens Like a polariser.

Are there any other cameras in the Casio range that can cover my requirements?
Does any one have experience with the S200ERX?
Does anyone know of other cameras for under $1000 that I can put a polarising Filter on

cannon 50d is a sweet camera for its price, its still not cheap but it will shoot 6fps. problem with DSLR is the price of good lens'.
i own and use the nikon d300 which shoots at 8fps and has a sh!tload more autofocus points but its fairly expensive.
if you spend the money you will definately notice the difference.

Problem with expensive cameras is if you use them on the beach its really hard to keep the sand out...especially if you have moving parts (such as the sliding auto focus ring on my casio which grinds when you turn it now)

I have a hard case for it and am very fusy.

I now have the Panasonic waterproof point and shoot, its great. I am much less stressed about taking it to the beach

i use 500mm lens which allows close pics from off the beach.

Yeh was thinking the same about interchangable lense cams. Don't have much dough either and kids with inquistive grubby hands, so was looking at the superzoom style ala Canon SX20IS but the frame rate aint speccy. Should be ok for my needs though as I don't hang around woodies

Anyone got suggestions for SX20 like cams with higher fps? Have searched but keep coming up withn the SX. Could always shoot HD vid on it though and grab the frames but sounds a bit time consuming. Time is tricky always for me.

Actually after nearly 5 yrs i just realised I only have 3 low res pics of my kiting. Maybe time to get some.

Yeah those ones are good but don't be fooled by its size. All non SLR cameras will have the same delay between pressing the shutter button and the actual taking of the picture.

The only way you can get Instant photo taking is with an SLR. If you are shooting sports and the person is moving all over you really do need an SLR. The focus is so fast and instant. You can buy a great SLR with lens for $500... i think, and it will kick the crap out of any point and shoot. Even the $1000 or what ever the price canon G11 still has the shutter delay like all point and shoots.

If your going to be at the beach and don't want and SLR id get the Pentax w60 or new w80 or the new Lumix (panasonic) waterproof camera. The Olympus ones are good but it uses that stupid XD card instead of the far better and cheaper SD.
My friend uses the an older Pentax one and electrical tape and attaches it to the centre strut. It can do video or auto timer for pictures every "x" amount of seconds (involometer)

Otherwise any point and shoot camera is as good as each other. Don't let the Mega pixels fool you either. After 10 thats too many. Its all a sales pitch. Oh and don't buy from the "camera house Perth". They don't allow returns. I bought a spare battery there the other day and then went down the street to find it cheaper at the duty free place for $25 less. Bought it and then went to return the other one and they refused. I eventually gave up arguing and swapped it for a filter which he was going to give me discount on before but because i was doing an exchange decided that he didn't want to give me discount anymore... Couldn't believe it..... By that time the money was not the point. i felt like spending $100 on a sign and posting it outside the store to tell everyone not to shop their and its cheaper 60 yards down the street...

Can shoot high def video as well; user friendly with wide angle lens for indoors and a decent zoom that will shoot kiting. Won all the reviews last year. I have one; they're great! The leica lens is supurb. Should pick it up sub $600.

The lower model waterproof panasonic is a free giveaway if you buy a high def panasonic plasma tv at the moment so you should see some pop up on ebay after xmas, or treat yourself to a new plasma as well.

Will probably go for (low-end) Canon SX120, (medium-end) SX20 (dreaming) 450D

Am pretty set on the SX20 and will have to live with slow fps but may be ablre to make use of the HD vid stills. Sooo many choices out there. Now all i need is a female model willing to help my artistic development in exchange for listening to manly kiting stories. Yeh, that's agood trade for sure.

worth checking out the Cool pix P90 from nikon, very long zoom lens (26mm - 624mm) in a point and shoot body also sports mode at 15fps

but only shoots SD video

The advertised speed on the shutter delay for the S200ERX is 0.1 seconds that puts it in the realm of a entry level SLR.
I have no intention of using what ever camera i buy on the beach. Only from the car park. I've seen to many cameras and lens destroyed. I already have my 1050sw for that. I know the Olympus take stupid XD cards but I already have them. And I do wish it would do interval frames.
The most important feature I want is to be able to attach a Polarizing Filter The lumix will take no filters. Neither will the P-90 or the SX-20.

Didn't Know you also what'd video. IMHO get a separate video camera That can capture good sound.

Ian, it will be next to impossible to find a point & shoot that will take a filter out of the box. You will need to get something like this lensmateonline.com/

the adapter will allow you to fit a filter to the canon sx models plus a few others.

Like most people I want a bit of a smogasbord I guess (no pork tho thanks). I have a (very naff these days) mini DV video camera but never use it as I always have the (very naff these days 3.2 mp) point n shoot when the kids decide to be amusing etc. Hence the desire for 2 in 1. Nice suggestions alround tho.


Can't get wifey to go anywhere near the beach when it's windy so the 20x zoom on the SX20 is good and keeps the camera squeeky clean. HD vid future proofs (sorta) for a while too. Cool pricing in the US on all the suggestions.

Aussie prices are ridiculous on this item. Try nearly twice the price after conversion. WTF? Makes it impossible to buy locally.

Er.. just a thought. Anybody wanna buy an almost unused (really) Canon EOS 3000N with 28-80mm lense? That's ANALOG btw. Has polarising and UV lenses too.

Bought for wedding/honeymoon in 2002 and within 18mths had seccumbed to digital.
