yea, thanks dave,
i think that will be a little out of my price range, im going into michaels camera's today, im looking for something less than $1000.
im looking at something called the pentax Kx or something around that kind of model
You might want to reconsider the Pentax. Not saying they're not ok for the price, but you really are getting what you pay for. For $1000 you'd be far better off getting something medium-range second hand in the system (ie. brand) that you plan on sticking with. The thing with DSLR's is that it's not just the camera you buy, it's the lenses and the flashes... and once you buy in to one system then without selling
all your kit, your stuck there.
If your wanting to use it in the water for kite photography then i'd suggest looking at getting both a waterproof video camera and a waterproof all weather point & shoot as you'd come in at around the same $1000 budget.
If you want to use it for other stuff aside from just kite photography then the DSLR world is split into 2 major camps, and a couple of other minor ones. Nikon & Canon are the main choices. Sony, Pentax, Olympus, ex.Konica Minolta are the smaller players.
Go into the stores and play with them until you find something that works for you. Personally the ergonomics of the Nikon's middle of the range (D90/D300) work better for me than the other brands, but YMMV.
