Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any tips for riding well when really powered up (20-25 knots). I find as soon and the wind picks up i seem to get too much pop, and loose some control in the air. I am landing back to blinds in the lighter winds but as soon as i get really powered up i feel that the kite is pulling me off the water, as opposed to me popping off it! Should i bear a little down wind after i unhook?

Thanks in advance!

this really depends on what trick your doing and how you are doing it. some tricks are naturally easier in strong or light winds, for example, if you are doing a back to blind pass in the air or a slimchance they are tricks you tend to really edge hard and huck into so it is still fairly easy to do when your really powered (also because you can pass then spot the landing). but say you are doing a back to blind or a front to blind but not passing in the air these are tricks you tend to throw your body over and is more of a timing thing and how much air you get, so when it gets windier or you are more powered these tricks tend to get harder, i would say if you are trying these sort of tricks yes i would bear off the wind first towards your kite unhook and then you only have to edge back upwind the right amount to get the desired air time or flick.

cheers,
i assumed it was harder to make the pass in the air. I am actually landing bind, then passing the bar.do u find the same thing with a raley to blind?

yes kinda similar in strong wind it will be easier to land a ralley to bizzle with a pass in the air simply because u dont have to time landing backwards with the bar behind your back, you just pass then spot ur landing toeside.

what would be the first aerial pass 2 learn? blind judges? slims? or dangles, some people said to skip dangles as you need strength for that pass and its actually easier learning slims first? yeah i recently started tryin to land tricks to blind, i kite chopy **** and when i was on the 13m moderately powerd i could land to blind but in more powered conditions it was harder to get ur body in the right position, i find if u put ur centre of gravity lower to the water by bending ur knees more its not quite as hard but im still working on it aswell. never really wasted too much time with blind before!

For blind a couple of key pointers, kite low really helps, your arm will naturally wrap around you, if you have it high it wil be pointing skyward and will be harder to land and look worse. Also if your going to do it commit, theres no half way between blnd and heelside so make sure you rotate as much as you can and with raileys to blind make sure you keep your head facing the direction you are going. If you look backwards it tends to stop your rotation and you will end up under rotated and your fins will catch.

As for arial passes, it really depends personally I think the easiest of the 4 main inverts is Slims, however I know people who have found Front Mobes(hasselhofs to start) and KGB's(backs to blind to start) easiest. I was told something in summer that really made sense, if your only trying to learn one trick at once thats all you are going to learn. So if I was you I would probably try all the inverts see what feels easiest and most natural. Some people say back mobes are the easiest to get the pass on but I reckon they are harder to land than some of the others.

I don't think blind judge is necessarily the best spot to start air passes because to do it you have to go into it pretty powered and really commit, when people start off learning air passes they normally go into it too slow with the kite pretty high.

If you want some specific tips on a certain trick I'm sure there will be someone on the forum who can help you. Just name it.

Just to clarify,
A back mobe is a back roll to revert with a 180 pass???

As I have just learnt, switch front roll to blind. But what I was reffering to is basically an incomplete front mobe which technically isn't even a trick if the trick polic are after me again. Any way when people first start learning front mobes they normally land toeside first due to the way you come out spinning and what hand you come out with on the bar. You see its easiest to land with for instance left foot forward when the left arm is holding the bar. Don't worry about it you will see it's less rotation than landing heelside.

i really doubt anyone would learn a front mobe first or can actually even ever do one proper.
here's a good one, if anyone thinks they can actually do a front mobe post a video of it im pretty sure no one in australia can do a powered wakestyle front mobe and make it look proper no pkra **** here.

I can't do a proper front mobe to heelside but I know Simon Wichtermann can, not everytime does he do it real sweet, most people fluctuate a bit. It was his first invert and I have seen him land sick ones. Theres some to toeside in some perth movies that have come out. Get off your high horse dude who are you to judge. You know we ride flat water you can't do the tricks with the kite as low cause we got no kickers where we ride. We still get em with the kite pretty low though, and keeping it technical. Not some bull**** 3 or grab crap.

Post some videos of yourself so we can see what is legit.

[Edit: might have been a full on, just that until you have even ventured off your East Coast you can't judge. I'm sure your a top bloke in person and one day we will probably meet but seriously dude stop dissing the PKRA, some of their stuff is a bit dangly but If you watch the latest videos i garuntee I can find at least 4 tricks that they landed real stylish and powered that is as good as anything I have ever seen Dre do. They are getting better man, I know one of the Judges (Toby Bromwich) and he said they are absolutely killing it legit and that a powered back mobe will beat a crap mobe 7. Its heading the right direction.] *end of rant

I ride at safety bay (wink*), normally flying EH ripper or sometimes Beasts... If your serious about getting into the handlepasses theres so many people trying them at our spot its the perfect environment to learning, and theres much better riders than me at my spot. I'm sure everyone will be happy to help you out.

dude! lol chill out no need to flip out im just sayin that a front mobe is not the move anyone would learn first because its a move i have pretty much, actually never seen anyone do one really powered and clean kiting. if i ever get some wind and a camera man i will get some footage and post it here for you. or how bout you come here and ride? as for just doin 3s and grabs, "who are you to judge" you dont even know me you so how you gonna know what im throwin down?
p.s. im sick of hearing this "oh you east coast idiots dont know about wind until youve come to the west blah blah blah" for your information i have been to the west coast twice, one time i stayed for over a month, i have also been to hawaii and i think that its atually alot windier and crazier there.

In my day, the "Eskimo Nell" was the manoeuvre everyone talked about - thrice round the deck, twice round the neck, and up your bum as a stopper. Haven't seen this performed recently.

Rowdy I never made a comment about our wind here or anything like that. The only remark I made as east vs. west was that most of our best riders ride at a spot that has no terrain what so ever to launch tricks off which as I am sure you know means the kite has got to be higher. Don't get so offended dude, and as for coming East I was going to go to the nationals until I tore my shoulder and was going to go to Mackay except I got uni exams. I'm sure one day I will meet you and on that day we will both realise we are not complete ****s like we are on seabreeze.

As for I don't know who you are, sure I do your this guy.
