Hi,

i am am new to kiting and got a bit ripped off buying a second hand kite with stretched lines. Long story short the guy is not refunding me.

The kite is a 12m slingshot rpm 2012 model, how do I go about purchasing new/secondhand lines? Do I need the same brand and model lines? If so where would be the best place to make this purchase?

cheers

You may just need to tune the lines. Connect all four ends to something solid, bar to the CL, check for slack. Adjust under the floats IIRCLines shrink, not stretch by the way :D

Call the guys at Kitepower in sydney, these guys offer good service for your slingshot .
If lines look old or worn ,replace them but keep as spares.
Ive had similar experiences when starting out.
Plenty of those types of people around, just makes us wise up quicker

There are plenty of those types around, however, stretched (shrinking) lines are very normal. They are under alot of load and subjected to sand. Id definitely suggest having them looked at but a simple tune up is what most likely will be needed. Definitely pop into Kitepower or at least watch some youtube videos.

Unless you're buying new lines I'd expect that the lines would be different lengths.

How do you know they are stretched (redacted), fence test?
the actually lines on an RPM are different lengths so you can't just get 'any' new lines unless you measure them first!
you can tune ye olde lines by putting them on different knots on the kite, I remember having a 2,2,3,4 system, except I usually forgot it and always wondered for a few minutes why the kite was pulling to one side

PS.
if you are having trouble getting knots undone you can chew on the knots or hit them softly with a hammer (not on a hard surface)
PPS
basically have to take most of the bar apart but good to get to know your kit

or, check buy and sell, should be able to get something for around the same price as replacement lines

Thanks guys,
I have now done some research into trimming lines, I will try the fence test to see where the problems are.
Rails, what do you mean the RPM lines are different lengths? Does this mean on a fence test you dont want the middle lines to be the same as the outside lines when trimming?

Cheers

Same length when on the fence or connected to the kite
different lengths when ordering new
i.e. Can't just order a set of 25m lines, need to order 25m lines for a RPM, cannot remember exactly but outside lines a foot or two shorter
