There seems to be some confusion lately from overseas kiters...

Some clarification:

Let's start by examining the most basic definition of racism—the dictionary meaning. According to the American Heritage College Dictionary, racism has two meanings. Firstly, racism is, “The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.” Secondly, racism is, “Discrimination or prejudice based on race.”

There are a lot of REALLY STUPID GENERALISATIONS from people on this site about travellers from certain countries, but this does not make them racist.

And lastly:

To all visitors from overseas, PLEASE don't think that ALL Australians are unwelcoming from the vibe you get on this site. I think what most of them are trying to say (pretty badly mostly) is just to respect local customs and observe the way the kiters operate at their local, and everything will be cool :)

True that does not make them racist but that makes them xenophobe...
But I agree with you, being a "****ing euro trash" and having lived here for 2 years the bad comments you can read on this forum are fortunately not at all representative of the real vibe you get on the beach.

The only reason that its not representative of the vibe on the beach is because the racist's on this site can hide behind their monitors and spew their small town, narrow minded, xenophobic filth without the possibility of any retribution. To put it quite bluntly these 'keyboard heros' would not have the balls in person.

Calling a spade a spade here and the use of language on this site towards European people is disgusting and it is pure and simple racism. Its also somewhat ironic as the majority of people on this site will no doubt be from European descent. But that realisation would entail the rubbing together of a couple of brain cells..... which is unlikely.

Its high time the forum moderators actually did something about this behaviour as it is not acceptable in the wider community and it is not acceptable here.

If people from Europe stopped being the main instigators of sh!t kiting etiquette at crowded Australian spots then maybe we wouldn't have such an issue on this site . Cause and effect people.

On a serious note, I don't think anyone on here really hates "Euros", after all (as pointed out above) most of us are Euros and to be honest unless you're an Aboriginal your definitely some sort of blow-in!

I don't care where someone is from, I give everybody a chance before making a judgement. As should everyone else.

I'm not racist, I hate everyone equally

Seriously though, this is cause and effect. It's not right but it's the way the world works. If you find that a small portion of italian/african/euros/muslims/etc spit in your face when they walk past you, eventually you'll turn away whenever one of them walks past you without knowing if they were one of the bad eggs. It's not racism, it's human nature, you react to the circumstances you live in and you adapt. Call it what you what, it won't change and banning it from the forum won't change the way people talk at local kitespots. If Euros (or any other nationality) are misbehaving, or continue to do so, it will continue to be a talking point. People aren't going to sit there saying "hey, that guy did a short tack, but he's a euro so I won't bring it up in case it's racism".

Unfortunately it also doesn't help much ranting about anyone here, no matter who they are. I suggest you get onto some of the overseas forums and warn them that because of the behaviour of a few, it's affecting the perception of kiting tourists as a whole and that localism may become more prevalent (and potentially violent) if tourists fail to follow local guidelines. Put the guidelines up on local websites (WAKSA, AKSA etc) and maybe a couple of them getting a fist full of knuckles may be a suitable outcome where only those guilty parties get it and they can take their experiences back to wherever the never learnt manners and warn their fellow travellers that a lack of manners won't be tolerated.

Is initiating violence ever a good solution

I've met heaps of visiting French and German kiters over the last 3 years at Exmouth, Shark Bay and Carnarvon. Some learners some experienced. All of them nice friendly people if you make the effort to have a chat.

Violence is never a good solution, but from the sounds of it, the issues are not with those who take on friendly advice and change their ways, it's those who ignore advice or pretend not to be able to speak english when approached (but miraculously pick up the language the moment they see a hot woman.) If someone continually ignores advice and won't listen to reason, do you have any other proposed methods of dealing with it?

Im of european decent and have a european partner so I reserve the right (even more so) to hang sh1t on pesky euros!

Its like african americans have the right to use the n word

Hell I even lived in europe for 5 years. Used to hear poms bagging aussies a lot in London. Some frenchies in the alps would say a few things behind our backs too..

Jeez, you (other) euros need to grow thicker skin. Euro bashing is not racism, not even xenophobic.. just a seasonal sport. Get over yourselves

American ignorant vision of the world...

I'm a foreigner, I have been here for almost 2 years now and I'm a Pinna local now, chatting with all on the beach, getting involved with everyone. I have seen all kind of stupid from all over the world and some from Oz too.

I just think people from overseas are just more apparent and most of them have english difficulties that make them unable to chat with you or shy to do so... unlike an australian doing something silly you can talk easily with...

I guess some local feel "invaded" Places like Perth have grown like crazy with people coming in from overseas that come and add to the already crowded spots so people just see the late arrivals as being the problem...

It's not racism, perhaps ignorance?

YES...

Obviously not... I was merely pointing out the stupidity of most people labeling others "blow-ins" when they themselves were a blow-in at some point. (figured I would answer on the off chance you weren't trolling).

haha - so true. I've made the trek from the east to the west once, the mode of lifestyle our mates from the West enjoy is enviable for those of us who in a capital city on the east coast.

As for Euro trash? ........ get over yourselves Aussie's ... I was born in Manly and have put up with dickhead, self opinionated, f*cknut locals on pretty much every break I've surfed; being new to this sport I'm nothing but impressed by the community that surrounds the sport regardless of where your from (globally) or where you put a kite up.

We all do this 'cause we're addicted to an awesome sport - if there's a wanker on the beach, or on the water it's all of ours responsibility to call the wanker on being a wanker ---- regardless of where they're from.

Nothing racist in that ... just diplomatic for the sport.

I know I made it to the right place when the complaints over the immigrants concerns that they integrate to the local activities and take up space there instead of trafficking, organised crime and religious fundamentalists that euro struggles with...

I don't understand how anyone can be insulted by the term "euro" after all that just means that my granddad wasn't a deported criminal that concurred in the genocide on the Australian natives.

But it's kind of strange that the complaints are that loud this year, WA getting so expensive that most seasoners opted for SA this year instead, so I recon that it's fewer euros but that a limited number of them(us? I've lived here for over 2 years now) misbehave and cause the frustration. And I'm kind of surprised that it haven't resolved to violence yet. After all, someone living in a van is pretty vulnerable..

Its not the term "euro" that offends but rather the derogitory tag line for example on this site:

euro filth
euro scum
euro wan*er
euro ****

If that ^^ is not racism then I don't know what is. Oh and the "criminal" thing is equally not cool IMHO.

This is a public access site that is watched by people all across the world, you are not down the pub with your mates here people. I am aware that many here are just over 12 years of age but for the rest of you, is this how you want to be seen?
