Hello everyone! I had a session yesterday, and the QR ejected by accident (North control bar 2020 connected with 2020 North orbit) when I was about to water start. This thing happened twice already.

I am pretty sure I did not touch the QR and my both hands were on the bar. The bar looks fine actually, and could anyone advice what seems to be the issues?

I used to have this problem. The accidental releases were caused by the quick release bumping the board when messing around in the shore break or whatever.

On closer examination I found the bungy holding the quick release closed had lost its stretch. I replaced the bungy and it's all good now.

I don't know if the bungy problem came from the bar being quite old and well used, or the manufacturer using too soft bungy.

There are multiple reasons this can happen. It could be an accidental release. New quick release systems that are ISO standard need to be released using minimal force.

Attach your lines up high (to a tree branch for example), then hook yourself in with your harness and do some testing to try and replicate what happened. See how easily it releases and if bumping it releases it too easily.

If you notice it releases without even touching the QR, then you definitely have an issue. If that's the case you may simply need to replace some parts inside the QR (such as bungees or pins for example) or send it for warranty. Either way, if you think it's faulty, you need to contact the shop where you purchased it.

Contact the kite shop where you purchased your bar, they will usually carry spare parts and be able to service the bar for you. There are usually videos or instructions that can found online on the manufacturer's website or Youtube channel which shows how to service your bar

My QR would release with fingertip pressure. A brand new one needed a fairly firm finger grip.

The tension device is simply a length of bungy cord with a knot at each end that passes up through some holes in the cap. I replaced it with some slightly thicker bungy and adjusted the knots until the tension was to my liking. More of a solid hand grip to push it away.

The only difficult part was feeding the bungy through the keeper holes up inside the top of the quick release. It was much easier dismantling the whole QR to get access. For Cabrinha they have videos of how to do all that.

It's easy to do but you need to be able to look at a mechanical/textile system and understand how it works. If you're not happy doing that then it's best to visit your local shop.

PS I ride foils and body dragging with your chest on the board is normal in a lot of situations. That puts the QR in exactly the right spot to get knocked. It should be less of a problem with a TT or surfboard.
