Anyone know where I can buy a Predator foot strap?

I should clarify the above...

In my opinion- this type of strap system has the advantages of neither straps nor boots

U wanna be locked in and have the board secure - boots
U want freedom to move your feet and the ability to get rid of the board when it all goes Pete tong - straps

All sorted. This type of strap was the only option for this particular application.

How exactly do straps have a greater "ability to get rid of the board" than these things??? Predator straps aren't everyones cup of tea but A LOT of people would be way better off using them than kooking around strapless now that they think that is the latest cool thing to do. These things give you a decent opportunity to move your feet, whilst still keeping you somewhat secured to the board, for most people out there I would say it's actually a fairly decent idea. It's pretty funny how things always come around. I can remember so many people on here saying Boots and Strapless riding was stupid (only a few years back), now those very same people are the kooks riding Boots and Strapless when they would be better off not doing so... That's the mainstream mentality I guess. (Not pointing any fingers, just making observations).

Hi anyone interested in the straps just pm me. So far after 7yrs use I still don't know anyone who has injured their ankle, 2 knee reconstructions using standard straps actually bought about the design. By the way what is a Pete tong- strap, english craig. haha

You twist your ankle when your foot gets stuck in a strap and the board does a 360, The good thing about the pred half strap is this will never happen, because its a half strap your foot is free to move around and not stuck in a strap. Straps have there place, massive bomies at high speed in choppy water straps are great, smooth cross off shore clean waves staples is great, but we don't get that much

And to clear up confusion there was (maybe still is) a brand called predator who made these little rubber straps that screwed under the connection points for normal twin tip straps the rubber strap then pulled up and put pressure on your Achilles' tendon as a way of holding the board onto your feet.

We were talking at cross purposes and I have no personal experience of using the predator straps you guys are referring to above.

Rowdy my comment re kicking the board off is that with the type of strap I was talking about you can't kick te board off..

Better than swimming around all day, or having one foot come out in the middle of a load and pop trick... I used them before I could afford boots, I don't regret it at all.

Hi...saw your post on predator foot straps. Are you selling these?

I bought some off Marty at Delta Designs down in Margaret River a couple of years ago. He might be still selling them.

I have a set of these predator straps but have not got around to trying them yet.

Hi LostDog the connections need to be strong. Nylon inserts or the like will eventually fail. Metal inserts or carbon fibre work well. I rout stainless steel tnuts into the deck of a standard fibreglass board at 25mm centres. Then fill in with rovings or chopstrand, matt over the top and I can still surf the board.


Max-Ob the straps are designed to be used as in the photo but in WA they do use them as you describe, whatever works. I set mine up as I like to step back and surf off my tail when on a wave or land a jump with my back foot slightly forward. Saw a guy use them for handles for his kids on a stand up paddle board once.

I have the back one the other way around so I can slide my foot forward when I jibe. I thought that was one of the reasons behind creating them. I may be wrong.
