Pinnaroo point is at risk, Sorry for the political post but you need to know.

As you might not be aware of the long-term plan for Pinnaroo Point? It's all been held behind closed doors, see it in all the minutes online if you need to check. You might know there is a new restaurant that will be built on the beach, and the beach use is being redeveloped to a general-purpose beach. Stage 1. (started)

Stage 2, (started) All conflicting sports to be removed from Pinnaroo Point. Horses, paragliding, paramotoring, and no further activities will be permitted. Permits for the schools will be weaned down and rejected as the beach is transformed back to a "general purpose beach".

Stage 3, Kite surfing and boating will be removed as it is deemed as conflicting with "General purpose" long term plan.

This was all set in motion by the current Mayor and a few supporting councillors over the last couple of years, main players are all up for re-election this year. The Mayor is not running this year suspected due to internal politics, but he is pushing to get Albert Jacob elected as Mayor for political favour to get into the liberal party. Read the local papers it's clear as mud.

The Joondalup election is coming up next month and it is very very important that you vote and remove any long term conciliar, unless you're happy with their personal direction. Conciliar Hollywood has been in too long and must go as she is a big supporter of the current Mayor and his direction in this. The city needs new blood and new eyes if you are going to fight this.

We are very lucky in Perth to have so many awesome beaches that we are allowed to kite. I think Pinnaroo would be at the bottom of the list. Crouded choppy crap with no waves. If we have to give up one it's not a bad one to loose.
We still have Leighton to Trigg, mullaloo, so many better spots worth fighting for.

Stiil a keeper though. Hell of a lot of people kite pinaz, plus a business runs there.

Wow.. that would be a blow to lose the pinaroo point for kiting. I like pinaroo point not just for the kiting but for the social aspect meeting the other regulars and learners. Losing the school there would be rough. I guess as Perth grows and develops, sites like these will disappear for kiters / windsurfers etc and make way for tourist development $$$$. The transition when they slab the ban on kiting would be interesting, the fun police would be out in force. What a funny world we live in.

Mullaloo could be lost just as easily as Pinnas forcing local crew to travel further for a session.

The Kiosk has been planned for many years, it isn't new news, unless as Steve says, there are minutes that speak of banning kiting. I'd be very surprised as Kitesurfing has been a big draw card for Joondalup council over the years and has featured in their calendars and promotional material for years.

The word "Kiosk" is for planning to keep the media attention down. White Salt group is the preferred bid, the Fig group are backup. Neither parties would be interested in a "pie and coke" Kiosk, they are Caf?/restaurants which is what it will be. The location is the North side of the carpark in the large grassed area, this will be fully developed to accommodate this. This is not a caravan and Mr whippy food stall in the carpark.

There is no action needed other than to vote at the coming election and to have councillors elected that will protect Kite surfing at the site. I recall the amount of work that was done to get this site and the fight was huge. Don't get complacent and let it slip. The city does not want you their long term. Just take the time to vote and let everyone you know to vote too, councillors get elected with only a few hundred votes so you can make a difference.

The city plays the long game, clubs are run by volunteers and don't play the long game. So, vote in councillors so when the topic of "conflicting use of kite surfing" turns up you have a chance to keep kitesurfing at Pinnaroo Point. The other "conflicting" sports that have been recently removed from Pinnaroo point didn't get the chance to fight it as they didn't get any warning to be at the chambers to put their case forward, most councillors didn't know it was on the cards before the vote. That's how it is done in Joondalup.

You will not find in the minutes any notice of remove "kite surfing" as that will give you time to counter and fight, it's in the closed doors reports. There is a lot of mention of that in the minutes of the closed door discussions. This will turn up unannounced as a side note action on another motion with a recommendation to "remove kite surfing" and it will be voted on there and then, and it will be lost.

My position has given me preview to this information not open to the public over many years. The old problem Mayor is not getting back in so you now have ? a chance, so I'm speaking up and giving you a heads up. But you must vote out anyone that will support the old regime. I will post as much notice as possible if it gets flagged across my desk in the future to give you as much warning as possible but you have to start here as I might not be there when it comes up again.

Two people you do not want in council, you DO NOT want Councillor Hollywood, and the current Mayor's puppet, you DO NOT want Albert Jacob as the new Mayor, vote for anyone but these two and you will have a much greater chance.

Sounds like someone has a personal beef and this has little to do with kiting.

What would be the logic in banning kiting from the beachfront just because there was a restaurant at the Northern end of the carpark ? Do they think potential dining customers would be put off by watching kiting from their two story shipping container popup restaurant? What else is there to look at - the carpark ? Its a terrible location with zero walk in traffic. Hoospitality is such a toigh industry to survive in - lots of great restaurants lose money over time, i would have thought having a ready supply of kiters would give them a bit of support if anything. Have a session, cop a shower and god- knows-what-else in the public toilet block then pop over for a beer.
