A bit early for the winds there, even when it's good it's not really that good. You'd have to have alot of bagage space to be worth it. Plenty of use there for the other gear tho

It can’t hurt to take your gear as long as you don’t have to pay any excess baggage.

May is pretty much in the transition period between the North East Monsoon wind and the Westerly’s, but there was actually some decent wind in Phuket during May 2009.

If it’s blowing from the West then Nai Yang beach just South of the airport is the main kiting beach, but you can ride at Patong and Karon. There are two kite shops at Nai Yang, and you can rent gear. If you want some local insight, talk to Dave at Kitezone, FYI they are renting F-One and Ozone gear.

Last year Phuket had wind early - went over for my birthday end of April and scored a few kiteable days ...

Never thought about Krabi in the SW monsoon ... possible, but have never heard of anyone kiting there ... Ao Nung would probably be the best beach to kite from...

Hey toad, having just recently returned from a thailand "tour" i highly recommend you take the rpm with you, i doubt the wind will be much chop, but the bladders will most definitely come in handy when you are wrist deep in 3 lady boys and out of tiny "proper" jimmies. Enjoy
