Now that the wind has died off, has everyone started to notice that Perth is a really awful place when compared to any other city in Australia?

Let me point out a few key areas for discussion:
1. Food Prices (Restaurants & Supermarkets & markets are all 50-100% higher than Brisbane or Sydney)
2. House Prices (Anything in a decent area is $500k+ even 1 bedders WTF)
3. Low breeds per capita (Unskilled labourers and their trailerpark Rayleen-Sheilas seem to be breeding out of control, even in the nicer suburbs!)
4. Nowhere to drive to (Drive upto 3 hours in any direction from Brisbane, Sydney or Melbs and you will be somewhere magical; think Byron Bay, Noosa, Mt Warning, Springbrook Mountain, Seal Rocks, Jervis Bay, etc etc. Drive any less than 3 hours from Perth and you will be in some sort of awful barren wasteland)

Now I know there is going to be a lot of "if you don't like it then leave" comments, and I will, just let me collect a few more massive mining paycheques and take every cent I have earnt back to the east coast. I personally think we should start mining Perth, Margaret River, and the Pinnacles.

If you don't like it leave! It's people like you that take all the money, jobs and wind! Stop whinging about missing wind this week and get back to work!

Well you're on the money Wishy.....only you failed to correlate the fact that Perth is $$$plus for everything PRECISELY due to the fact that people working on the mines push up the price of everything from houses to food to a pint of beer. (I'll keep out of the 'Low Breeds' debate!)

I'm not on a mining salary but just quietly; even though it's free.........I secretly think this wind we get is worth something....don't say anything or the pollies will find a way to charge us for it.

I have worked in various wine growing regions all over Australia and I have to say Margaret river need to cut their supply of bottles to the region, and increase their supply of goon bags. I have never in my life tasted such pitiful overpriced crap wine and none of it is worthy of being bottled, at all.

Born and bred sandgroper love WA. But Wishy actually has a legitimate point so no need for the Agro guys. that was something I did notice spending some time in Brisbane, Melboure and Sydney. But hey the season is worth it and so is the lack of people. But alas mining is doing a fine job of farqing that up. The sooner things settle down the better for most of us.

I come from a city, although stunning in any direction from it, has a very high probability of one being mugged/hijacked/murdered.

Being in Perth, being able to walk along a road in peace, cycle 34 km to work on cycle paths (mostly), leave kite gear and car parked at a secluded beach, not have to monitor my wife's vehicular movement by satelite security system, happy that my kids can make a living as a labourer...
The list goes on and on...

I for one love Perth. I dont need to pay for overpriced meals, it's called choice. Yes, house prices are crazy, but again - no 8ft wall and several layers of security.

Depends on how you see things...

I am totally bored in Perth. It's so fricken boring that's unbelievable.

The fact is this: We watch a TV 5-6 hours a day! Plus the Net. All the time.

How many hours do you do? And is this your only "fun" after work in Perth?

Just ask around you what others do.

Mate, I have 2 growing boys, we dont allow them to and neither do we watch tv during the week. They both do karate and swim. My eldest (8 yrs) did his first TRY-athlon yesterday and regularly takes part in karate comps and other events such as the City-to-Surf.

I play the guitar (and Ukulele) and sing fairly awefully, but it brings a few people together. We walk our dog alot and go camping whenever we get a chance.
Yes, I spend too much time on SB, but only at work :)

I am from London originally and have traveled and don't get your point at all(other to wind folks up which worked really well !!)
U obviously not happy, simple leave, grass is greener, maybe ?

It's true that without a family this place is a bit dead and expensive for what you get... but 6 months solid wind...

No one forces you guys to stay here, me I'm leaving not because I want to but because I could not get a visa.

You should feel lucky, build your own entertainment, start a family and be happy they allow you to stay.

If not, well, leave. Put your money where your mouth is...

I don't post much so maybe I don't know what im on about, however, i've taken the bait on this dribble of a thread hook line and sinker...so here it goes:

I spent 15 yrs traveling the world on a shoe string and I gotta say there's always somewhere better/worse for which ever area in life you are focusing on.
Man i've seen and lived in some awesome places! :)
I agree perth sucks, however it also rules...
Each day will always be what you make it where ever you choose to be because you will always be YOU! and vision of what is and what's available to you will always be tinted with the colour of glasses you see the world with.

you might think you have found the perfect place that caters to all your needs handing out your entertainment, ease of living etc, on a platter, until you realise YOU is what the problem is...you will find something to complain about in your paradise and over the years that complaint will grow because things you perceive are outside your control will CHANGE and you will once again want to move to somewhere the grass looks greener to YOU.

"the grass is always greener on the other side"
So go ahead and keep looking for the perfect place to rest your legs all you Perth haters...I won't miss you and...In fact I hope you find your paradise...maybe it will come with a bit of peace when you finally find your place in the world...you might even one day come to realize it's not JUST the place and what it can offer YOU.

Too true, they both spoke of that very move, around that age. One now in the UK, the other in Kal , but they assure their old man, they miss the joint and they'll be back some day, permanently. Ya never know
