Now that the wind has died off, has everyone started to notice that Perth is a really awful place when compared to any other city in Australia?

Let me point out a few key areas for discussion:
1. Food Prices (Restaurants & Supermarkets & markets are all 50-100% higher than Brisbane or Sydney)
2. House Prices (Anything in a decent area is $500k+ even 1 bedders WTF)
3. Low breeds per capita (Unskilled labourers and their trailerpark Rayleen-Sheilas seem to be breeding out of control, even in the nicer suburbs!)
4. Nowhere to drive to (Drive upto 3 hours in any direction from Brisbane, Sydney or Melbs and you will be somewhere magical; think Byron Bay, Noosa, Mt Warning, Springbrook Mountain, Seal Rocks, Jervis Bay, etc etc. Drive any less than 3 hours from Perth and you will be in some sort of awful barren wasteland)

Now I know there is going to be a lot of "if you don't like it then leave" comments, and I will, just let me collect a few more massive mining paycheques and take every cent I have earnt back to the east coast. I personally think we should start mining Perth, Margaret River, and the Pinnacles.

The Nice folk living in Dongara are not going to be happy with you.

My wife tends to agree with you Wishy, she's from Kilcare NSW.

please don't let the door hit you on the way out wishy .

There is plenty to do in perth when there is no wind and there is plenty to do within 3 hours of perth in an east . south or north direction .

Simply put F$ck off back from where you came

You must be a seriously good bloke/ripped/good looking/good cook/make tons of money/etc to get her to stay in Perth! OMFG

Well you're on the money Wishy.....only you failed to correlate the fact that Perth is $$$plus for everything PRECISELY due to the fact that people working on the mines push up the price of everything from houses to food to a pint of beer. (I'll keep out of the 'Low Breeds' debate!)

I'm not on a mining salary but just quietly; even though it's free.........I secretly think this wind we get is worth something....don't say anything or the pollies will find a way to charge us for it.

Also, while I'm here......

I have worked in various wine growing regions all over Australia and I have to say Margaret river need to cut their supply of bottles to the region, and increase their supply of goon bags. I have never in my life tasted such pitiful overpriced crap wine and none of it is worthy of being bottled, at all.

Born and bred sandgroper love WA. But Wishy actually has a legitimate point so no need for the Agro guys. that was something I did notice spending some time in Brisbane, Melboure and Sydney. But hey the season is worth it and so is the lack of people. But alas mining is doing a fine job of farqing that up. The sooner things settle down the better for most of us.

1. Food Prices (Restaurants & Supermarkets & markets are all 50-100% higher than Brisbane or Sydney)

It's called economic growth - lucky you're in WA coz there isn't any over east. What's the big deal anyway? You're earning good money in mining, stop being a scrooge over a few bucks here or there.

2. House Prices (Anything in a decent area is $500k+ even 1 bedders WTF)

No different to Sydney. At least you're earning enough to afford it. Again stop being a scrooge.

3. Low breeds per capita (Unskilled labourers and their trailerpark Rayleen-Sheilas seem to be breeding out of control, even in the nicer suburbs!)

Geez all that time spent living in the lavish suburb of Cottesloe! La dee da! Not everyone can be so fancy.

HA! Drive for 3 hours in Sydney and you will still be in the city!!

I come from a city, although stunning in any direction from it, has a very high probability of one being mugged/hijacked/murdered.

Being in Perth, being able to walk along a road in peace, cycle 34 km to work on cycle paths (mostly), leave kite gear and car parked at a secluded beach, not have to monitor my wife's vehicular movement by satelite security system, happy that my kids can make a living as a labourer...
The list goes on and on...

I for one love Perth. I dont need to pay for overpriced meals, it's called choice. Yes, house prices are crazy, but again - no 8ft wall and several layers of security.

Depends on how you see things...

(PS: agree with Margs wine, but hey - West Aussies make the best beer in the world!)

You talking South Africa? Right.

So:

Was it safe for the bashed guy in Kenwick station the other day? Or many many more bashed or murdered in a recent years around here?

Consider this: Perth is not for everyone. Just like Sydney isn't. Or any other city.

1) The reservation in Jamie's place you can do for September? Hello?

200g Wagyu how much $$$?

More than in Tokyo.

2) No, you can't afford a house. You can afford a mortgage. The Bank owns you than. Remember 1987-88? 18% interest? No? How much is that on $500-700k?

3) Very true. I've never ever seen so many in my life. Anywhere. Well traveled. Never been to SA tho :))) That's S.Africa, sorry (yeah, I would've been a sniper target in Cape Town, hence decided not to go for work).

4) That big hole in Kalgoorlie? Called the Super Pit? Have u seen it? Like raping the Planet the biggest attraction in Town. But, don't get me wrong - I like Kal! It's got some charm.

I am totally bored in Perth. It's so fricken boring that's unbelievable.

The fact is this: We watch a TV 5-6 hours a day! Plus the Net. All the time.

How many hours do you do? And is this your only "fun" after work in Perth?

Just ask around you what others do.

PS.

And sorry the best beer? There are 60 000 micro breweries in Germany only :)
You would need a lifetime to visit them all:)

Yeah, for sure Perth is better than Chernobyl. I was told cheap housing there:)

But, compare Perth with some European cities, right? Let's face it, born and bread here and you are still probably of European background.

Yep, the EU is f...ed. But I'm thinking to go back coz I do not see myself watching a TV for the rest of my life (and I'm 43). No, I do not have kids.

Ha ha, thanks!

You see, living in Perth (or any city) has ups and downs. I think we are in "downs" path now for the next couple of years.

While it's easy to measure someone's life based on a limited input, we, on the other hand can't measure yours?!

So tell us, how much hours do YOU spend on a TV and the Net? Too much?

Mate, I have 2 growing boys, we dont allow them to and neither do we watch tv during the week. They both do karate and swim. My eldest (8 yrs) did his first TRY-athlon yesterday and regularly takes part in karate comps and other events such as the City-to-Surf.

I play the guitar (and Ukulele) and sing fairly awefully, but it brings a few people together. We walk our dog alot and go camping whenever we get a chance.
Yes, I spend too much time on SB, but only at work :)

Pets in strata -it's a no, no!

So you see - you have kids (did you read the above?:).

For this - Perth is perfect. For not having kids, not so.

Just ask anyone without the kids what are they doing after hours. But, you know, a truth hurts, a simple lie doesn't:(

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the funny note:
"The climate of Perth is much celebrated in Perth. It, like Perth itself, is moderate, mellow, bland and smug. It believes it is "just here to have a good time, mate", and frequently tells people to have "no worries, mate". It has a 9 to 5 job that it hates, takes frequent sick leaves, and abhors working overtime. It works alternate Fridays, and sometimes will just not show up because it is "worried about its barometer readings". Despite this, people know it as a "pretty decent bloke". Perth's climate likes to talk about politics without actually understanding them, and on summer months Perth's climate sends down sporadic drizzles on random occasions just to draw attention to itself. Its average temperatures always stay in the range of 10 - 25?C, for fear of being labeled an activist or an extremist. However, Perth's climate is very protective of its way of life, and when it perceive it is being threatened, particularly by north-westerly winds who should "go back to where they came from", its temperatures can rise up to 46?C[2]
Most Perth locals can recount the temperature and rainfall on the past few weeks with great accuracy, and the climate of Perth enjoys the attention it has been getting. It has somewhat reached the status of a local celebrity, and it is rumoured that it may be moving to Melbourne to host a FoxTel program. It may also be moving to Melbourne, period. It currently lives in its home in Claremont, where it gives off breezes of complacency. Most of its rainfall occur in the winter months, other than that it is quite dry, even dull and unimaginative, but it thinks it is rather hilarious, and its friends have been known to laugh at its jokes out of politeness."
It's true that without a family this place is a bit dead and expensive for what you get... but 6 months solid wind...
No one forces you guys to stay here, me I'm leaving not because I want to but because I could not get a visa.
You should feel lucky, build your own entertainment, start a family and be happy they allow you to stay.
If not, well, leave. Put your money where your mouth is...
I don't post much so maybe I don't know what im on about, however, i've taken the bait on this dribble of a thread hook line and sinker...so here it goes:
I spent 15 yrs traveling the world on a shoe string and I gotta say there's always somewhere better/worse for which ever area in life you are focusing on.
Man i've seen and lived in some awesome places! :)
I agree perth sucks, however it also rules...
Each day will always be what you make it where ever you choose to be because you will always be YOU! and vision of what is and what's available to you will always be tinted with the colour of glasses you see the world with.
you might think you have found the perfect place that caters to all your needs handing out your entertainment, ease of living etc, on a platter, until you realise YOU is what the problem is...you will find something to complain about in your paradise and over the years that complaint will grow because things you perceive are outside your control will CHANGE and you will once again want to move to somewhere the grass looks greener to YOU.
"the grass is always greener on the other side"
So go ahead and keep looking for the perfect place to rest your legs all you Perth haters...I won't miss you and...In fact I hope you find your paradise...maybe it will come with a bit of peace when you finally find your place in the world...you might even one day come to realize it's not JUST the place and what it can offer YOU.
Good luck to you Wishy...
