There was always plenty of parking at Pinnaroo Point, but since the cafe was approved with not nearly enough parking spaces, the City is handing out parking fines but doing nothing to address the mess they've created.

I sent this email to the mayor of Joondalup (great idea Ant Man). Please do the same.

Before the Pinnaroo Point cafe development was approved, there was great concern about not enough parking spaces being built as part of the project. This concern has been validated and manifested in the form of the City handing out unprecedented numbers of parking fines in the area.
Two simple adaptions would be to remove the no parking signs on the verge and limit the number of patrons permitted in the cafe in accordance with the parking spaces they built. Another way forward is to redevelop the redundant rigging area into a parking area of greater capacity. Please respond with the City's approach to addressing the problematic parking situation arising from the cafe's approval.

Well we all saw this coming.

I know on Saturday they were issuing warning notices.

Joondalup council need reaming for approving the build without significant more car parking.

Just waiting for parking meters to be installed.

Been booking ppl for years at PP. At one point sail boats were rigging up there, pre 2010 from memory.

The sailors are long gone, I don't know where they went. Way to many kiters these days so no need for that rigging area.

It's a blatant money grab or a complete lack of monitoring to ascertain the current status at PP.

I'm a cynic and can't cop the wasteful spending of Joondalup council. I'm surprised they haven't installed another fence from PP to Mullaz point. I guess it took 3 fences for them to recognise they will eventually become buried. Small pieces of chain wire fencing buried all over the shop now.

Good news is the Groynes have been canned. Not because they're a dumb a*se idea but because voter backlash will ensue.

Hmmmmm, $15 a pint, what's that all about. I was told there's a kiters discount in place. Happy hour from 2pm.

I got a response from the City of Joondalup.
I goes something along the lines of 'what the **** do you want. No!'

Dear Joe Thank you for your email regarding your concerns with the insufficient parking at Pinnaroo Point and the resulting infringement that were issued in the area over the Australia Day long weekend. In the case of the newly opened Beach Club facility, there has been substantial interest by the public and patrons alike to access the foreshore area for entertainment and recreational purposes. As is the case for most foreshore areas during the summer period, over a long weekend and during school holidays, these areas do become maximised and parking bays become a premium. There is no ability for the City to provide parking bays for every single vehicle and therefore overflow parking will occur at popular locations. If there is no available parking at Pinnaroo Point, patrons can park at the dog beach and walk to Pinnaroo Point. With regards to the issue of parking infringements in the car park, this was not the case. For those vehicles parked on median islands or not within a parking bay, they were issued cautions as an educational exercise, however, should these vehicles park illegally in the same location then they do risk an infringement, especially if they have previously received a caution. As interest in the Hillarys Beach Club will likely reduce and now that school has commenced for the new year, it is anticipated popularity for the area will reach some form of normality. Until such time, the City will continue to monitor the situation around Pinnaroo Point. I trust this clarifies the City's position regarding this matter. Kind regards

That sounds like a F@**k you kind of a reply.
They don't care, which ever way you slice it the council comes out on top, revenue from the venue, revenue from future fines.

What a bull**** reply from the council. As you say it has all panned out exactly as we (and the windsurf crew) expected. Luckily I was down around 11 today and got a spot on the 'loop' (I believe the grassed area has some underground services and bore facilities below... so they are unlikely to allow parking on this space). By the time I left, 1'ish there were no car spaces and thirty odd cars doing loops looking for a spot - no access for picnic area, beach, playground users at all. A great business at everyone else's expense... totally frustrated and disappointed .... from someone who used to sail cats on the beach there 30 odd years ago....

...and I've just written to council reps, mayor and local member of parliament... its a disgrace....

I can where it's going on the northern (windy) beaches in Adelaide maybe 10-20 years time. They will get developed for rates dollars and municipal bragging rights. Will be a sh~t show to drive there and then park. Will end up like Melbourne, and not worth sailing after work. Probably after my time anyway. Money talks, BS walks (from their perspective) sadly. There's probably nothing wrong with the cafe. It's the parking that's bull****. If they were forced to build another 50 spaces, there wouldn't be a problem. It's quite simply another City of Joondalup fail.

Which city council is responsible for this?

The City of Joondalup has been mentioned 3 times so I guess it's Toowoomba Shire.

FYI, the Tavern DID NOT BUILD ANY PARKING. The City of Joondalup spent ratepayer's money to do that. Also, the "rigging area" inside the trailer loop is still in use. The deep Nilometer inside the loop restricts options too.

There's probably nothing wrong with the cafe. It's the parking that's bull****. If they were forced to build another 50 spaces, there wouldn't be a problem. It's quite simply another City of Joondalup fail.

FYI, the City of Joondalup would have great difficulty building more parking because it is enclosed by "Bush Forever". This was the reason most objections were raised. Unfortunately, there were insufficient voices of dissent when it mattered.

The council and KA got back to me and said it's ok for kites to park in the rigging area and they won't be issuing fines for it, meaning essentially that they're leaving the no parking signs there for everyone else. I'm ok with this.

Is that at any time or the posted times on the signs?

I had a meeting with the CoJ recently and discussed the parking issues. They said that there is a potential project to build a new car park North of the Hillarys Beach Club.

Perth is way to car-centric and constructing more parking bays is not the solution.
