So I have a buddy needing a bar who is just getting into kitesurfing. He bought a kite sans bar, and I told him I'd have a look in the shed and see if I had anything floating around.
Which brings me to this old ozone bar - pretty good knick apart from a bit of fraying above the chickenloop. I don't want to kill my buddy so I thought I should look into replacing the frayed part and giving him the bar. I don't even think you can buy the 2010 chickenloops anymore so I need to know how to go about replacing the rope. Is it a PU covered centre line that I can attach to the loop?
If so, anybody know the steps to replace it? If you have a link or something for me to follow that would be swell

Obviously you will get a different response from different stores on this but here are my thoughts-

My view on most side pull QR chicken loops is they are usually unreliable and many of them simply aren't safe. The part you need for your loop is available but I would suggest seriously considering an upgrade to their newer chicken loop.

Pull some decent fishing braid about 50kg through when you pull the other out then use this to draw the replacement through. Will cost him about $10.

I realize the pull release is old, but I recall that when I took it to a shop a year or 2 back they couldnt fit the new push away chickenloop to it, it wasnt compatible. So whats the part I need Briskites (to repair existing setup)?

Hey Chris,
You will most likely need the loop, leash swivel and flag out line.

I can't see the rest of your bar in the pic but you might also need some other adjustments.

I agree with NickT. Amsteel Blue 6mm will last much longer than the genuine Ozone product .


Trim line Amsteel Blue got 4 years out of it ,and that's without the PVC covering ,it actually outlasted the kite.

If you can get that part, that will fix up the frayed section, but I never heard of an Ozone bar breaking at that section either. I'd still recommend upgrading to the new push away chickeloop that Briskites recommended. Def can be done, but you will need to buy a couple of other parts too. This will upgrade the bar to one that is very similar to the latest and will have the industry standard push away safety release which is super important for a beginner IMO.

Looks OK to me - little bit of fraying on outside.
Being new to kiting, he won't be doing many 10M jumps for a while - If it does happen to break (Highly unlikely by the pic)
the kite will still be attached to the one line safety and all will be well.
Think about a new one when and if he starts jumping.

We probably have that part in stock, would just need to see the top of the depower assembly
if its pre 2011 we have and they are $45 plus $10 express shipping in AUZ

Mate scored another bar. But I still want to fix it for my own use.

The fraying is worse than it looks in that pic, had enough snapped lines over the years to know when it's getting sketchy.

Pleased to know I can sort it with a PU coated line. Will pop down to the local shop over the next coupla weeks and get it fixed.
