Freeride Setting
The Freeride setting offers a lighter bar feel and increased de-power which is perfect for freeriding and also in the waves. To use this setting simply shift the middle bridle lines to the pigtail knot closest to the leading edge.

^^^ Got this from the ozone website. Should't the freeride setting be the pigtail knot furthest away from the leading edge?? or have they changed the bridle for 2012?

Yes I think thats a typo, have sent Ozone a message, thanks.

Its correct as stated. By lengthening the bridle at the front lines you tilt the kite back exposing it to the wind. The turning speed is noticeably faster, I haven't noticed the limitation in depower but obviously you would have to let the back lines out more to regain the same tilt achieved on the other setting.

Confusing to explain but easier to feel.

Direct from Ozone, the website is correct.

"The Freestyle setting is when center lines are not in tension (ie pigtail knot furthest away from LE). Freeride setting when pigtail knot closest to LE."

Possibly some confusion due to different "freestyle" and "freeride" meanings to users, me included.

ok now i'm more confused.

My understanding is the knot closest to the leading edge brings the wing tips in closer and therefore sits it deeper in the window and decreases the depower. To me this is the wakestyle setting but now they are calling it the freeride setting? huh?!?!

BigE, sounds like you thinking of knots normally on backlines at the wing tips? On the C4 the adjustment is at the inside of the bridle, the closest connection to the centre of the kite. Lengthening this point allows the middle of the kite to open back while the tips stay still.

no im not thinking of the rear flying lines.

Here is my exact understanding:

Wakestyle setting:
Knot closest to the leading edge. Bring wing tips in, greater bar pressure, less depower, sits kite deeper in the window, more pop.

Freestyle setting;
Knot furthest away from Leading edge. Less bar pressure, quicker turning, more depower.

Have tried both a fair bit and am going to stick with the freestyle setting for unhooking. Kite feels so much better on this setting.

now I am no aeronautical engineer jeez I couldn't even spell it without spellcheck.
but I think by moving to the knot closer to the leading edge your not changing the shape of the kite but moving the attachment point for the front lines further forward and further towards the center of the kite.

by just changing the knots on the backline connector you will not change wakestyle/freeride settings you just change the backline tension.

you actually have to change the connectors on LE to change kite wakestyle..
depending on brand you would mostly bring the frontline bridle further together towards center and backline further away from wingtips so kite moves less on bar imput.

hope that helps

i reckon it boosts bigger on the knot furthest away from the leading edge

Only moving the front lines closer to the leading edge and maintaining the same back line length effectively shortens the front lines, proportionally, the kite's angle is pulled forward into the wind creating less resistance/ power. The full pull on the bar can no longer achieve the same angle or tension from the back lines.

As INTHELOOP said many other brands have similar systems, the only other I use often is Slingshot which includes two seperate pigtails on the leading edge, here is a description for the RPM: "So you're wake style setting is basically to allow the kite to sit back further in the wind window. What you gonna do is to take the pigtail and move it from the forward pigtail just a couple of inches back to the rear pigtail."

This is a really interesting topic not widely discussed, it is easier to understand if you think of a pure C kite. Realistically just try every setting and see what suits your riding style.

hell i'm confused. just got a 2011 10m c4.

all i can say is the setting at the end of the leader felt like poo.
no glide. droped like a stone when jumping and didn't go upwind very well. and i'm sure the kite felt sluggish.

moving to the next knot up the leader line felt like my 2010 c4. Very nice i like that setting. i pressume its the freeride setting.
