Seen as the 2017 gear is not far away I got to thinking what does everyone else do with that gear that's been building up in the shed?
Is it better to try and sell things individually or as a package?
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to selling/buying gear in the digital world I suppose the problem is how do you make your add stick out from the rest.
Any ideas?

Yep, put a lower price on it. So much stuff on the seabreeze classifieds sits there forever as the sellers are hoping to get fantasy prices. Used gear, especially kites (uv and wind-flogging) and styro-core boards (susceptibility to water absorption) are worth stuff all. Well looked after twin tips should hold some value but everything else deteriorates pretty quickly.

I pity the noobs who fall for the "still crispy," "great for beginners" and other crap that people say about their 3 year old c-kites etc...

lowest price and closest proximity wins.

Find a deserving grom or beginner on a tight budget and just hook them up, with the agreement that they do the same when they upgrade gear. This was taught to me by one of the most awesome people I know, by him giving me two kites when I couldn't yet afford the sport. You will make someone's day beyond belief and they will in turn help the next new person out. That's what I like to do now.

stick to the common brands, Although there are some great kites out there if its not a common brand they are just hard to sell

I don't have any gear building in my shed. I have my current gear and that's it. I can't afford do have anything just sitting around not being used. That needs to be liquidated to turn into more toys.

That's what I planning to do Plums, turn these older toys into newer ones.

prefer it to go to somebody that will cherish it & enjoy it, than have it sitting in my shed.it was a switch after all!!

Yep sell the old gear and move on!

I have just successfully sold four kites (three Cabrinhas and one Ozone) since mid March this year, all through the Seabreeze Buy and Sell section (paid the $14 each add) and was very happy with the responses and results. I priced the kites appropriately (all used and all sold at $750 or below) receiving responses from Adelaide, Southern Victoria, Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, Tannum Sands, Sunshine Coast (2), Perth, Sydney and even abroad from a kiter in Portugal.

Take lots of photos, buyers were obvioulsy keen to see as much of the kites as possible so I imaged the leading edge, the inflate points and airlock screws, the condition of the storage bags and I included photos of me flying the kites themselves.

I recently asked some random beach goers (with phones) to simply record a few images of me kiting and then MMS them to me and they obliged no problem...Aussies are inherently good people and they found it fun to follow my kite around snappng off almost a dozen images when I asked for one or two!

Be quick to respond to queries and available for inspections.

I posted my 9-metre to Southern Victoria using regular Australia Post no problem, but recently had a kite repair postage go missing for a week, so worth the extra few dollars for insurance (the kite turned up but a worrying week was had wondering if over $1000 of new kite, recently damaged, was gone!!!)...long story but Aussie Post missed the first and most important scan and the item couldn't be tracked!

Some people and shops are trippers
The majority of kiters are cashed up snobs and wouldn't be seen on used or old gear
Soon as it's been used or out of the bag I'd wipe 40% off it and expect to pay that,
Last years new kites should be around 30% less
Checking sb buy and sell for kites that interest me has only the odd post that'd interest me,
Some shops are flogging 3 year old kites( although new) close to current prices,
You need to be realistic if your looking to sell, you need to be cheap if you want to sell quick

Brand new old stock 30% off rrp. $1700
As new condition second hand or ex demo up to 1year old. 50% $1000
2 years another 30%. $700
3 years another 30%. $490
4 years plus ..... good luck.

Any profession repairs. Remove another 50% off the above pricing.

I just picked up a 2012 - 13m

$300 with a bar, so that's pretty close to the mark.

Bar is in good nick and I could always cut it down to a smaller bar if I find it too wide. Hard to find a compstick for less than $150.

New kites are over rated.

I'm just stubbon and refuse to pay 2k for something I can get for $300.

Spending 700% aint going to do jack to my performance on the water.

A few years ago, I could buy a second hand kite then use it for up to a year or so then and sell it at the same price if not more. Now it seems a one year old kite gets less than 50% of new value, and buyers are always trying to knock 20-30% off your asking price even if it is reasonable. Too many kites on the market now, buying new has never made much sense to me unless you want that brand new kite feeling...

...but compared to a lot of other sports/hobbies its still pretty cheap.

I'm testing the second hard market at the moment, have a few kites for sale between $80 bucks and $150.
