Hey all, planning a few trips to Old Bar NSW but have heard about car break ins while out on the water. Can any locals confirm it's an issue? I have scoped it a few times while working around the area and seems super quiet. I'm assuming best bet is shoot down the beach to the inlet.

I have been there back in 2021. Not easy launching but good for flatwater and beginners I guess. Nice trip up there, very remote, so you will need a GPS to find it.

Any recent reports?

I've heard that it was all silted up and super shallow, not quite the flat water paradise that it once was. But, sandbars shift with rains obviously so could have changed again?

I went for a ride at Muddies a couple of weeks ago.
I got out just after high tide and it was good riding in the channel and above it to start with (1ish hour) but got shallow up the top near the entrance quickly. Was still fun but I ended up having to walk over the sand bar to get down wind.
The entrance was open at the time but was only a couple of feet deep at high tide and is now shut. this will affect how much water gets into the lagoon as the tide has to go all the way through Harrington.
Back when I use to ride there all the time. We found when the entrance is shut the water quality drops pretty quickly as the water gets hot in summer.
You can still get a good ride in but it can be hit or miss on the tides.

All good points but the question was about car break ins? I've been there a few times before but with groups so was a non issue. But solo I've heard rumours of thieves, like anywhere I guess though

Remote? Nah

If you're riding waves - Wallabi point in a NEr is great (the beach can be a bit small on high tide)- no issues with break ins.

Been kiting Mudd's for 20 years and never had a break in to my car. I have always taken the normal precautions (hide phones/wallets etc...),
Having said that I haven't kited it much in the last few years and when I did kite it a lot I drove a Transit van which you couldn't see into.
Christmas has always had a few break ins around town as there are a lot of people around with light fingers. But that isn't just at Mudd's.
