wondering what the deal is with offset inserts??

how come some boards have offset inserts and others straight?

whats the advantages / disadvantages?

can I set my bindings up both ways ?

ive set them up with the outside insert closest to the rail.
(inside insert furthest away)
is that correct?

ive searched around the wild web for some info, but can't seem to find any info on either kite or wake forums / websites.

So somebody explain it to it to me please....

??? pictures ?? Are you mixing things up again Ragzilla?? How are the custom bar-nline sets going??

If your foot straps / bindings have adjustable slots whats the issue? If they dont then the footstraps would be to 'straight' where the inserts are symetrical ?

Maybe it just depends on what footstrap / binding combo the board manufacturer was expecting ??

Nah.... my deck is set up perfectly. I was watching an 2015 Axis product vid, and they were talking about offset, and how to run your bindings.
So im just curious about why some have different inserts.
I can't seem to get a straight answer on exactly what purpose offset inserts are used.

Where is the line drawn that says "yep, this deck needs offset"

You know now I like to mix things up and do things backwards, MrLambie. Nothing like stroking a cat backwards or eating your pizza the wrong way.

.... and for the record.... my custom bars came out sweet! Took me a full day to learn how to splice core & cover neatly.....

next time you need a bridle replaced..... you know where to come.

Straight inserts means you can "spin" your board around,as in set up to opposite edge if you happen to have damaged your first edge. That's the only reason I am aware of.

It sounds like you're talking about straight foot versus duck foot and narrow stance versus wide stance.
If that's the case then overall straight foot narrow stance is better, and better for your back and legs.
But when I was first learning I always set-up duck foot wide stance because it's just easier to balance.

Straight inserts are down the centre line of the board and are found mostly on boards that are intended to be used with wakeboarding bindings.
Offset inserts are found on boards that are intended to be used with straps and pads.

its not not really important to me, I'm just curious why different decks use different lay-outs for inserts.

I was watching a Tona product vid about tuning rails.... and the fella was saying you can tune your toeside & heelside rails different, and swap your bindings around for different purposes ( whether you want a sticky or slippery rail)

i ride the Tona Pop.
Offset inserts, and always set bindings up with toeside inserts to the centre. Reason being that I figured it gives me a harder edge because my heels are closer to the rail.

Weeks later I was looking at a Axis Tranq review and they talked about the decks offset inserts and the correct way to set up bindings.

Im a simpleton, so I got confused why one shaper tells me I can flip flop my bindings around, and the other tell me there's a right & wrong way.

I dont care.... I'm happy with how mine are, but figure I leave it to the kind folk of seabreeze to help my general knowledge.

I get that offset is better for wakestyle..... but why?

spent a good hour hunting through wake forums for a straight answer.... couldn't seem to find one??

Not sure.my wakeboard is centered. Only thing i can think of is as you can get a greater duck out if you've already rotated the mounts. Also it would mean the screws would be set back further on the heelside giving less leverage to bend boots when you catch a heelside edge.
