I have a few questions in regard to my BWS undertow bar.
Last week I was out in some gusty conditions and the 'off switch bungee' broke. Firstly, I am wondering if I had done something wrong to cause this. I had recently moved the depower restrict ball and protective plastic tubing a little further down the depower line because the bar was occasionally getting caught on the plastic tubing when I had the bar sheeted all the way in (it was as if the tubing had slipped up about 7 cms).
Secondly, I had a spare 'off switch bungee line' and connected it but the ring wouldn't fit through the loop. I am not sure if the new 'off switch bungee line' is the same size. Could it be that there are different sizes and lengths?
Finally, can I use another brand's 'off switch bungee line'? The slingshot model is more than half the price. http://drtuba.eu/all-kite-products/repair-products/repair-kits/product/slingshot-css-bungee-safety-line
Sorry, for all the probably inane questions, I just want to make sure that my system is not unsafe. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi I used to have the same bar and had the same problem of not being able to get the bungy back on the ring, I think the sizing of the bungees and the ring is a little bit off. What I did was force the loop of the bungee over the ring with a set of needle nose pliers using them as pliers and as a fid ( rope working tool) to work the loop over ring to form a larks head. If you do that it will be fine just the same as the original.

I also had bungees break this was from wear.

As far as using another brands bungee you will need to make sure it is the right length first

But when I have the depower rope fully out, ie fully 'powered', the front line that connects to the off switch bungee comes through the 'bit' where the front lines join to the off-switch bungee, meaning that the front line connected to the off-switch bungee is now shorter than the other front line. Will this affect how the kite flies?

yes it will mate. thats what will be putting added pressure on the bungee. you will either need to adjust the line through the v cleat backing plate or trim in and mive the ball to suit. to get the bungi to last a bit longer, try and have it so that it still has a bit of retraction when depower trim is all the way out. They are a replaceable item yes, and due wear out. s9me brands faster then others. I cant say the slingy one would work without measuring it. its more about the length.
as far as the hole size goes, BWS had a run of bungies that were sewn a little to tight in hole size. you can unpick a bit of the thread to release the loop a bit.

To add:
useally the loop to loop just under the cleat sits directly against the cleat. thus relieving the pressure on the bungee. mate, not 100% sure im explaining this well enough but feel free to call me and i can walk you through it.
