Have i just totally stuffed up my kite holiday? lol.
I'm going top Mui ne (vietnam) on the 1st-15th October for kite surfing, but looking at stats recently it seems i may as well not even take my kite gear. Is it very predictable or will u get random windy days like in Vic?

I'll find something else to do there i guess....or maybe i should just pay the transfer ticket fee and rebook for 1st November, any thoughts?

Bring a water filter. It's filthy. Dirty grey shut worse than what comes out the back of your washing machine. Enjoy.

I'm sure Rob will answer any questions, you'll find contact details on the website www.kite-n-surf.com/default.aspx

He's a top bloke and straight up no BS artist. Be patient because response may take a few days, he may still be on holiday so checking emails isn't top of the agenda. But he will reply

Come for an SUP or a surf with me,

In October there is often typhoon swell as well.

and if there is no wind the water should be clear,

Mui Ne's water gets brown because the South China Sea in the Mui Ne area is quite shallow and is stirred up by the STRONG wind.

Hey Salt,

Mui Ne is a great place and kiting is bonus, there's heaps to do, and going in October is still good. Every year weve gone we've had wind (lucky maybe), even Oct. Mind you, weve had the best time in mid Nov to Dec when the trades come in. Plus there is less people then and more of a buyers market.

Good luck,

cheers,

Robbie

Hi guys thanks for your thoughts.
I made an executive decision to change the dates (only another $150 anyway) to 15th -30th Oct based on the attached 2009 Mui Ne / Phan Thiet wind statistics archive.
Hope this is useful to future travelers.

I have a feeling those archives are only of the prediction for the days, not the actual readings from the days, so could be a little inaccurate as we get plenty of good predictions but as we know they can turn to sh!t

But I could be wrong

I just looked at the forum post i got it from:
kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2366272&p=666149
"The forecast (the archive data consists of forecast data) seems to be most accurate for Phan Thiet, which is close to Mui Ne Bay. I must admit never having been to Viet Nam, but my collegue here owns a bar over there (Pogo Bar, very recommended ;) ) and reckons this is about right."

anyways, Just changed my ticket so too late now.

If Indonesia is any guide to what is happening in SE Asia, you won't have much luck. La Nina is in full swing. Water temps are 4-5 C higher than normal, wind is rubbish and we didn't get a dry season.

Good luck!
