Hi all, I'm new here, greetings from Uruguay.

I have an Ocean Rodeo control bar. Today I checked line length and found that the aft lines should be a bit longer. This bar comes with an adjustment in the aft lines with 3 knots, and the problem is that its already on the last knot, can't lengthen them any more.

The bar is 2016 and I haven't used it that much, so it's a bit surprising the lines are already stretched out of range? It's also a bit annoying that, since the lines are already at the last knot, I can't choose to lengthen the lines on a windy day to have more bar throw.

Couldn't find a solution to this on OR page or manual.

Stretch out your power lines on a solid fixed object
i slide a screwdriver through pigtails then find a hole to secure ( a hole on my tow bar)
fully power at trimline and keep hands close together at bar, then offer a decent amount of resistance and hold for a few seconds, after 2 attempts, slide steering lines through screwdriver and re apply pressure, this will allow you to check all are equal, and repeat if reqd , do lines in pairs power/ steering not individuallly,
looking that you've reached full adjustment I'd set it to the middle before stretching out opposing lines, that way you will have adjustment next time,
this method can be done on steering also which sounds like your case

Hi Miura.

your back lines have actually shrunk over time due to salt water/sand/heat/UV rays affecting the fibers. The front lines don't shrink as much as they are always under load.

What you are experiencing is very normal and it's also normal that you don't have any further adjustments on the bar. Lots of bars on the market don't have enough adjustments for this line shrinking problem.

Since your back lines have shrunk you can try stretching them as Cauncy suggested. However, this is a very temporary fix as your lines will continue shrinking back and there is no way to stop this.

The permanent fix is simply to add line extensions at the end of your bar. Usually 10cm extensions will do the trick, but you may need more. Go to a kite shop and buy some or order some online if you don't have any laying around.

I'm using it with Ocean Rodeo kites, yes. These kites require a short pigtail on the rear lines which makes them longer than the forward lines. I removed the pigtails before checking line length. My rear lines are about 2 inches shorter than the forward lines.

My lines are about 2" short now at the last knot, so I would have to stretch them about 4" to reach the middle knot of the adjustment and achieve equal line length with the center lines. I think the best solution is to add a 4" pigtail and then I could eventually try to stretch them a bit in the future if required for minor adjustments.

I recently had the chanche to mail 2 maor brands like CORE and AIRUSH, asking about infos similar at yours.
And i received great assistance from them. So, i would recommend to ask them first. Providing fotos, videos, and all mecessary to make them understand perfectly what you wanna know

Yes, I have some pigtails in the bag. I have a Prodigy and a Flite. Both came pretty well equipped.

I have a very minor difference between the 2 power lines. I don't know if it's relevant, probably 1 or 2 cm. These don't have adjustable pigtails, so I'm not sure how to correct it (in case it's required).

Ocean rodeo are one of the few kite manufacturers that didn't standardise on equal length front and rear lines until very recently (2018 I think). Don't try and trim them to be equal lengths unless you are very certain your bar should be equal length lines. Your kite should have come with pigtails of about 3 inches to trim the rear lines to the correct length. By default, you shouldn't need to use the pigtail extensions if you are using the Ocean rodeo bar although this may depend on exactly which model of bar you have. I believe the first generation of equal line lengths was with the Shift bar (though I may be wrong).

Have you contacted an Ocean rodeo retailer to check if your bar should be equal length trim?

Brief report back: I have added the 4 inch pigtails included in the kite bag to extend the back lines and now I have even length between the four lines. I had to move the back lines to the first know of the adjustment, so now I have some more room in case I need further adjustment in the future.

The very minor difference between both center lines was corrected by stretching as suggested by Cauncy.

Weebitbreezy, yes, my kite calls for uneven line length. It has a 3" pigtail on the back lines. I removed it to check line length.

Line lengths of the Ocean Rodeo bars, all bars, without any pigtails attached should be equal, standard.

Kites pre 2018 require the pigtail added on the rear lines.
Kites 2018 onwards (Prodigy Gen 6, Flite Gen 6, Roam, Razor Gen 7) require equal line lengths.

Thats correct. Nice kites and worth a session. I fancy a go on a Razor as I suspect I'll like it. The exchange rate is just killing me. They are just as expensive as Core as a brand in the UK but without the good resale market.
