The West Australian papper today released the new set of rules for the beaches this summer.

No Umbrella bigger than 3mtrs and no kite flying or toy vehicles on the beach.

I hope they don't mean no power kites at cott, Issos.

Does anybody know more?

according to the new rules published today in the west your only alowed to visit the beach if you have more than ten million in the bank and you head firmly stuck up yo arse

Well that special kind of American Freedom we all love to hate starts to infect Australia is the way I see it, driven by litigation. Don't thing you can do anything fun for free in teh near future.

Fight the idiots coming up with this kind of crap - yep, and i also bet the instigator (probably one person with a chip on their shoulder about youth) don't use the beach anything like the amount we do.

It is pretty much discriminating against the fun that younger people like to have, and the older generation had. You make up too many rules and teh future generation will end up with no common sense whatsoever and I promise things will get worse. Educating about mutual respect is far more important.

These bylaw proposals are in for a rough time - I just hope people actually bother to lodge a submission against them rather than rely on someone else - then its too late..

I'm no lawyer but don't they need the rules to be available for those times when some fkwit can't use common sense (which seems an increasing phenomenon these days)? I'd much rather there was a rule that said "no being a fkwit", and then allowing someone with a bit of common sense to enforce it, but I'm guessing that's legally difficult to do so they need some detailed rules?

To my mind most of those rules are fine - depending on how they are enforced. I can think of situations where just about every one of them seems entirely reasonable (except "no toy vehicles" - man I ****** love toy vehicles!!).

Have a read of the "keep left" thread. There's a fair bit of talk about how traffic in some countries flows much better than it does in Australia - in many cases its not because the speed limit is any different to here, but because of how it is enforced.

Go 500-1km north or south of an average beach like cott and have your drink

i was going to keep going but CBF , you guys do realise the ONLY WAY these laws will be enforced is by rangers . So unless the ranger is there to catch you , you wont get done by the cops . This is a WALGA issue not police .

SOME of those rules are necessary to enable the enjoyment of the beach by everyone (ie- no alcohol)

SOME of those rules are to limit litigation- no digging big holes, no glass etc

SOME of those rules encroach on the free enjoyment of the beach and are down right ludicrous in a country like ours. No toy vehicles ?

The thing that is concerning for myself is that regulation, rules and governance are destroying our ability to enjoy ourselves. In South Australia one local council requires you to lodge an application and obtain a permit for a game of beach cricket- no joke.

Where will it stop ?

Assuming they're sensibly enforced, it looks more like a case of regulation, rules and governance destroying the ability of a select few tools to enjoy themselves in the interests of ensuring the majority can continue to enjoy themselves. Sounds pretty bloody reasonable to me.

I have lived in cott and close by all my life. Dont think ive been to Cott beach once in the last ten years (rather do leighton or swanny for example). Its a great place to get your stuff stolen and if your lucky you'll get a car park within 1km on weekends. So popular with tourists and people from other suburbs and to a degree it just gets flogged by people who couldnt care less about leaving rubbish etc.

Whilst i believe there is an over exaggeration of how much rules are actually changing, some are pretty rediculous.

one i'd really like to know is, with 1000 people in the water on a sunday, how the fk are you going to track down that one kid who jumps off the groyne?

I reckon they should just ban people from going outside. Make it so you get all your sh!t delivered to your house by robots.
