I liked it. Nice cars and chicks. It was on youtube.

That said I couldnt get through more than 2 minutes of it.

Crap - all about show and money

Those kites looked out of place - not blingy enough. Those guys need to get a custom made entirely of shimmery gold and silver material. And get their bars pimped too. And wear some shimmery gold boardshorts.

I saw that video again, and I've noticed Dubai is run by the RRD guys from Italy. There are a couple of RRD videos of the kooks in Dubai having fun playing on the beach and kiting, with the massive high-rise buildings in the distance.

I would not surprised that most of the money and opulance in Dubai has come from the suffering of millions in terms of drugs, bribery, coerhsion, mafia and oil of course. It's all badda-bing-badda-boom rubbish.

every single one of my students from dubai had a hollier then thou ****ing approach untill i reef down a steering line and launch them 5 meters in the water hehehe then they listen. cant blame them they could buy and sell my ass with theyre loose change so why bother listening to some scummy convict.

every expat i ever met who lived/worked in dubai said it has everything but everything is fake. the only "real" thing it has is kiteing and thats really **** light etc etc

the more i travel the more i believe sunshine coast is where its at. wish i was wrong.

your latest and biggest pile of crap to date

I learned to kite when I worked in Dubai recruiting for the construction industry from 2005 to 2008. Yes, Dubai is all bling now, very different from the first couple of times I worked there in the 80s. I eventually left because of the inequality and the inhumane way the workers who built the city were treated. Watching the destruction of the environment was heart breaking.

The winds were infrequent and very light for most of the year although from Jan - March the winds would improve with the cooler temperatures. We'd pump up and sit on the beach sometimes all day in 38+ degrees C and 90% humidity, waiting for 15kts of wind to come in for maybe an hour, if we were lucky. Bladders would burst, glue on the valves would melt. We couldn't walk on the sand in bare feet, the sea was 37 degrees, sticky and very very salty. Often the beaches were covered in cuttlefish shells and dead turtles, a result of the construction of the Palms and hotels.

Most kite sizes were 16m - 20m and if the wind came in at 20kts (rarely in the summer) we'd get nervous because it seemed so strong and most of us didn't have 'small' enough kites. Most went to the Red Sea for lessons as the learning curve was very long in Dubai due to the lack of wind. The 30kt winds there really frightened some of the novice Dubai kiters and they would sit it out for a couple of days before they plucked up the courage to give it a go.

In the 3 years I was there we were pushed off many great beaches between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, to make way for construction, until the only place left to kite in Dubai was Jumeirah Beach itself (Kite Beach).

Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Oman offer much better kiting conditions.

I made some great friends there however and the kiting fraternity was made up of really nice people so I have some great memories of my time there.

Dubai is a place for the very rich and for expats who are lucky enough to get exceptional salaries. If you are not one of the lucky ones it is a very very tough place to be.
