Gday fellas.. Keen on hearing from anyone who rides a shinn monk or speedball at a beachie . I currently ride a jimmy Lewis model 3 and was looking at a second board to mix it up a bit... Before anyone starts going ( ride a surfboard it's fully sic) I do when I'm kiting and all year round when there's waves but I have been having way more fun on my tt sliding out the tail and boosting off the lip. I find with my jimmy Lewis it's a fine line between holding edge on a hard turn and fully sliding out down the face . The rails on my board are slightly rounded and was wondering if the monk or speedball was a bit sharper and performed well on the waves. Any feed back would be great

I have monk; you are welcomed to have a go at it somwhere North Perth

If you want to boost off the lip then a Monk is your board. For riding a wave and sliding the back out as well you're better off on something else, there should be other twinnies out there better for what you want than the Monk.

All of the boards mentioned and others go great, but wind strength dependant, the speedball performs best in lighter to mid range winds, the Dundee then mid to strong, the monk from strong to overpowered, I've had all 3 and used in onshore conditions, the alkita boards are more wave orientated as a tt but conditions dictate , nomad boards have been producing a great looking wave orientated tt similar to the old shinn wave

Monk, Speedball etc are common twin tip construction. Whereas your JL3 is foam + glass, similar to the Alkita boards previously mentioned. Correct?

Yeah mate that's what I was asking. The rails on mine are very similar to a surfboard design and I love the way it feels. Just wanted another board that performs well in waves but feels different to my jl3.

You can have a go of my Monk.........if you can find it. Last seen in the middle of Botany Bay!!

+1 for the Monk. Ride it in Perth waves all the time, it's fantastic.

Ah ha. KSS in Scarborough stock Shinn. They also had the Mako a year or two ago.

I highly recommend the Axis Twin Wave for a TT in the waves.

That thing looks sic!! What's with the 3 fins on one end ? Does it still ride good heel side both ways or do you have to ride toe side on it

Rides heel side both ways with ease, even in choppy water. The straps are set slightly back towards the 3 finned end. It is a great board for carving hard toeside and heelside turns. I've used it into up to head high surf and the rolled rails allow it to release when driving down a face. Great fun. Do a search on reviews.

Shinn Bronq, Monk, and Speedball (for light wind) are all sick and so is the Axis Twin Wave. If you're open to a mutant style that still rides both ways, the Twin Wave is such a cool board.

Try before you buy, especially if your spot can be choppy, the board was my least favourite, pretty sure the owner would be keen to offload, put the ocean rodeo on your list if this is what you think you may like

looks a lot like a shorter version of a mako, the ad doesn't mention the boards concave though.

We had a good session down the beach one day with a couple of the shinn and Axis boards in choppy windy conditions and they all rode nice with the soft flex but getting back on the JL and being able to ride mack 10 through the chop was sooooooo nice.

yeah I will demo a couple when I get a chance . I've been loving my jimmy Lewis since I bought of you a couple of years ago. Don't know if I'm wasting my time trying to get something better. I'm just getting board with the surf boards and my tt is super fun down madora
