Hi I am looking to get a new 12m kite. I am looking to progress in unhooked freestyle, but want to stay off c kites due to the gusty conditions I face. Also have a ways to go before I pass the bar so I've narrowed it down to these two kites. I think they both would fit the bill. My question for someone with more experience is would the rpm exceed the unhook ability of the dice? I've been kiting for 3 years, weigh 57 kg. Have my backrolls, frontrolls, and raley under my belt. Yep, without a doubt.

Was speaking to Sam light at the pond who was running a clinic for some younger riders trying to push their wakestyle moves. In his opinion just go straight to a C kite. The hybrids are generally too fast and don't offer enough slack even when learning the basics. They can actually be a hindrance to progression... and at the time he was showing me example on the water, some on dices and other hybrids. One young local rider was on a dice, has now got a Vegas and his riding is taking off.
Same thing happened for my son when I put him on the ozone amps, from bandits. Progression accelerated. By the way at your weight I would strongly suggest you consider the ozone amp as well.
anyhow that's Sam lights opinion and he basically trains riders from all over the world through that international kite school thingy which the name escapes me.

Yeah get a c kite.
Razor, Vegas, hi fi, fuel ect
Don't compromise. If you want to learn unhooked freestyle why get a kite that pretends to be a Jack of all trades, it will be a master of none.
C's can handle gusts just fine.
Just have to learn to control the power of the kite with the board and stop relying on simply sheating out.

I have both the Dice and Vegas. If you want to go unhooked then the Vegas would be the kite to go for. Its more technical to fly and you do need a bit more experience to fly it. I found the Dice, for me anyway, tends to move to 12 o'clock when unhooked and have been teabagged big time on it. The Vegas is much more stable when setup properly and there is quite a bit of options here. But there are some disadvantages with the Vegas as well. Like launch and relaunching ,up wind performance and 5 line setup, however the Vegas is also the better looping of the 2 kites. If you want to seriously go unhooked then the Vegas is the go. But remember it is a full C kite so it wont be suited to every situation but will cope with most. Also consider the size. Bigger the kite the less it will tend to move around unhooked and thus less of a teabag issue. But then you also have the problem of being overpowered. Always a compromise. The wake style bar also is better suited to unhooking.
So, if your considering seriously getting unhooked the I would get the Vegas. There is a reason Hadlow and the others ride them.

My son tried the Vegas (which would be my choice - well the torch rocks to - man they are all good really) but it was too full on for his light frame. He was struggling to load and pop against its insatiable drive ... which is perfect to load and pop when you have a "normal " body weight. The amp is much more forgiving and yet provides ample slack for passing the bar and is super stable as well. etc.

he rode it once then competed with it the next day!! Intuitive C kite. Anyhow the blurb on them via the ozone website is pretty good and better at describing it than me. Emerson (current state champ and second at the last nationals - Vegas rider) had a crack on it for antmans sake and really liked it.
just think it's a good option for a lighter rider who wants to get cracking on their wake stuff. I reckon a hybrid is great for a rider who wants to do lots of things and dabble a bit into wake. Or, an accomplished C kite rider who is toning it down and wants the versatility to ride other ways themselves.
but if ya serious on concentrating and pursuing this style, get a C kite as a hybrid will seriously hold you back.
