Anyone know when the new Ozone bar will be available?

Is the 11 metre and 9 metre Edge supplied with the same size bar?

Hi Rob, my understanding is that a new chickenloop will be appearing soon, but the fully redesigned bar may be a little while longer. Steve at Kitepower would have the latest info though.

Yes the 9 and 11 Edges both run on the 50cm bar.

Ozone wasn't happy with some of the quality of fittings ,so have found another manufacturer to make the product, personally can't see why they need to change what is already a great bar, doesnt make the kite fly any different, got a mate in the UK who's with ozone if your keen ill find out what the go is

Sorry mate but that quick release is pretty agricultural.
I've had sand in mine a couple of times and it jams it up.
Fortunate it was not a drastic emergency.

Sri Lanka last month. Cocos in August. Then 4 months over your way. Start in Sandy Bay in September. Then same wander down the coast as last year. Will see you when I get down to Dongara around Nov 24

Serious? They've had close to a year to rectify the bar! They better not release 2013 kites with a 2012 bar

Agree with Rob, the QR is old fashion and you have to remember which side you want to connect it (left or right handed).

The swivel can't be operated without disconnecting your primary safety.

The bar end design tend to snag the steering lines while doing unhooked tricks.

For $500 I think this bar is very far from being perfect. Agricultural is quite appropriated actually.

Every single Ozone review for the last 5 years Kiteworld mag says 'when are you going to change to industry-standard push away release?'. That's why they're changing

Once they change, KW Mag is gonna have to think much harder to fill the 'KW Would Change' column...

yo kiteboy its a personal preference, if you mix your kite quiver with different brands then yes id say go with the push away ,but if your familiar with the system it doesnt matter if its push away or pull, if you turned the tables and ozone were the only brand with a push system we would be having the same discussion

Not really because a pull away doesn't work if your center lines are slack. Just about time for them to move forward.....

So why would you want to pull your safety if your lines are slack, a kite won't launch you or drag you around with slack lines can you give me a example, I'm not being smart I'm just curious

kite falls from sky in a lull and is going to get yanked by a gust... better to drop it to safety before it snaps a line. happened to me a few years back.

There will be more news about the new bar and CL later in the year its only Mid June guys! Ozone don't like the yearly race to release new and only slightly different gear and tend to constantly improve their products.

The bar is perfectly functional as is, many thousands of Ozone kites out there.

BUT Ozone want to perfect their new CL and be sure is is as good as they can produce, and it will be a push away design.

You don't have to remember which side, there is no "side", you just rotate the tophat swivel to the side you prefer to have you flagging line on.
The primary safety is to release the bar, secondary safety is to release the chicken loop, final safety is release your leash.

The swivel can be operated with the primary safety (bar release), you need to move the leash to the ring inside the chicken loop.
The bar end design is identical to several other brands, but Ozone are working on something to remedy this issue which only affects a minimal number of riders. (but we are still 100% committed to fix it)

Complete with lines the bar is $449, bar alone is approx $239

Steve, by "side" i think he means whether to have the chicken loop QR on the left or right (as the QR is not in the center like for example on the cabrinha bars).

My biggest gripe withe the ozone bar is the accidental un-hookings - does anyone else get those? I think a longer donkey dick is needed. Since I don't ride suicide if I let go of the bar after accidentally unhooking the kite flags and on occasion fell through the lines - which results in a trip back to the beach and resetting.

The second issue is the fact that you have to manually untwist the leash after a kite loop if you don't ride suicide. Yeah, I know I could use suicide but I'd prefer to have the option to flag the kite if **** hits the fan.

Maybe you should actually try the gear so you will realize that there is a "side", as the QR is not centred.....

Which makes sense to anyone of course. Dude, you're a retailer and you seem to forget that buyers have different needs according to their level.
Ozone's bar works but is obsolete, absolutely no doubt about it. What's the point trying to find stupid remedies where the product obviously fails? Especially if what you are suggesting could put somebody at risk (connecting suicide for someone who hasn't got a clue of what it is).

There are pros and cons with every bar. No bar is perfect. The Ozone bar is no different. The bar grip is comfortable and high quality, the lines are high quality and the retractable elastic cords that hold the lines in place once wound up are a nice feature.

The main problem is that the safety can jam fairly easily with a bit of sand. This wouldn't be so much of a problem with a push-away release as you can force the release away from you using the resistance of the chicken loop against the harness hook. With a pull release though, there will be no resistance if the lines are slack. Matix has already explained one of the reasons why you would want to release when the lines are slack.

@SpaceCoyote: I have also experienced two accidental unhookings. Once was because the CL was somehow resting on the tip of the harness hook, as opposed to actually being within the hook. The donkey dick wasn't stiff and/or long enough to prevent the CL being ripped all the way off the hook. Another time i was simply cruising along, powered up, and it just unhooked suddenly with no warning. This was probably for the same reason, but it certainly helps to have a deep harness hook. It has only happened twice, so i personally don't have an issue with the donkey dick.

Yes, the bar works, but if we kept on defending rubbish designs, then we'd all probably still be riding rubbish kites like the Slingshot Link .
