Ok, we've decided on New Caledonia at the end of August/start of September.

Has anyone camped at Poe? Your thoughts, suggestions?

Any other tips on New Caledonia?

Cheers

The accomodation at the surf safari and at Poe are ordinary at best....
The best place to stay is just south of Noumea main city ... a place called "ansi vata" or spelling close to that.

The wind is up and down (like everywhere) and the kiting off Duck island and the second island out, is flat water.

The locals hate westerners( french hate english).

Good luck.... You'll need it.

Hi,

I think I can give you some tips.

Of course, you can camp at POE, there is a free one and another one (not free...).
To be honest, prefer the one that pays off. The other one is regularly victim of robbery.

Between Noumea and Poé, you can go to OUANO, on the left of the surf camp. Good spot when windy.

In NOUMEA, 2 spots, very easy access : Le Meridien and Cote Blanche.

Ilot Maitre is a very good one as well, it's juste around 15mn from noumea by boat (2000 CFP return). Different ways to go overthere : Taxi Boat (the yellow boat in L'Anse Vanta), or by the Coral Palms (the Escapade's boat).

September is a little bit early in the wind season. The best moment is December.

I was there for the millennium, actually watched my first Kitesurfer ripping it by the Club Med. Little did i know i would be hooked a couple of years later.

Woman are beautiful, love to play on the beach topless. My highlight was watching a local speed into the beach on her salom board, get to the beach and unzip her spring suit to expose a tanned and neked body.

Would love to go back there again one day.

on the negative side, expensive.

From August 27th to September 10th will be the pacific games. Be prepared for 3000 pacific islanders to rock up and play havoc on the island.

there will be road closures for marathons and triathlons, the sailing competition will take up a good portion of harbour, the Surf competition will also take over the local surf breaks.

if you have not got your accom sorted it has probably already been booked out.

on the plus side if there is no wind you can get some tickets and watch the best athletes the pacific has to offer.

I'll be there with team PNG - GO PNG!!!

Thanks for the tips everyone. All very useful.

Being a girl myself, not overly interested in topless women, but good to know!

Might have to look into the timing if the Pacific games are on then.
