I am considering a Mutant as never had one, had most other boards including foils.
So my question is - it seems there are twin tip type construction and fins or bigger volume similar to SBS and SB fins.
After comments on benefits, thanks.

I think it really depends which you lean more towards TT or SB.

Also do you want to go backwards? if not then sb style mutant, If yes then TT style.

Mutants are unreal fun just don't go thinking they will ride like a surfboard otherwise you'll be disappointed.
No point buying a directional mutant in my opinion , you might as well stick to a surfboard. Try and have a go of a mates one , not everyone likes them.
personally I prefer twintip mutants .
I had the ocean rodeo mako but no matter what way I set it up it just didn't do it for me. On the liquid force lunar lander now and love it. It's definitely not my everyday board, surfboard when the waves are good and a jimmy Lewis model 3 for when it's nuking and I want to boost, but definitely a great addition to the quiver

How does the V shaped tail behave when you try to boost? Does it hold or just kind of slip a bit compared to a square tail Twintip?

I would probably buy a lunar lander just because the shape looks really interesting and fun but no idea how it would actually behave.

It actually holds really well , obviously you set it up for your preferred stance but I've also ridden it with the pads set like a conventional tt and the swallow bites heaps more than the other end.
Its very similar to riding a proper twin fin surfboard where the swallow sort of acts like a third fin, but is loose when you want it to release

I've had a few, some really need certain conditions that I've owned to be fun, so always used with a conventional board, my alkita was amazing fun 5 % of the time same with speedball, shinnster, shinn wave, I know 6 guys that own the Nomad wave, and wouldn't part with them and used 100% of the time by them,

Cauncy's Vid sums it up. A mutant is a do it all board. Why limit yourself to TT riding or wave riding when you can do both at the same time.

To me riding an sb is too limiting as is a TT. I want to blaze the shallows, carve between the boulders boost over the rock wall, boost to the moon off that wave lip. Then on the wave back in to slash those waves up, I want to ride big assed heavy steep waves that would bury a TT nose, I want to ride the bump and jump washing machine slop that's very hard to jybe on a SB in.

I want to do it all at once on the same board. No other board does it better than a well designed mutant.

But,,,, its not the best at riding waves and not the best at going upwind and not the best at boosting. If you are a single focus purist guy then a mutant wont appeal. If you are a Jack of all trades and master of none then you will like the mutant.

Yep still have my Jimmy lewis Rad-F ,one of the best Mutants around, allthough dose not go up wind in reverse that well have had some great sessions with it in both small slop and good waves combined , got to love the mutants

Back in the day I thought to go the mutant path.
but to suck it and see.
i got an old TT and moved the straps towards one end . Rear square front normal TT stance.
got two thruster fins cut off mini Tuttle bit and drilled and tapped to TT fin holes.
end result was fine and got me the fun I expected.
In waves it was way better grip in bottom turns than TT. Better toeside.
going out backwards was quite doable but some focus on the surf fins biting in was needed and stance was tiring on big tacks out.
then along came my Bhoot with Assy rails and the advantages of the mutant idea became not enough to get my lazy arse to change back and forth.
now I have my Pocket Air Foil board that with those same mutant fins fills that gap even better but I'm still too lazy to fit them.
