Lucky it was early morning. Imagine kiting around when its 15-20 knots and seeing a 149 knot gust coming towards ya

That would leave stains in anyones undies.

Although i'd say this is just a windmeter f**k up

Hi there,

I checked all the other weather stations recordings around the bay and not one recorded any gusts or wind increase above the normal!
280 km/h !!!! is the wind speed in a cyclone category 4 - 5 producing severe damages.
I don’t wand to disappoint anybody, but this looks like some trouble with the wind speed/wind direction sensor in the station.
Thinks like that happen sometimes, and the data reported in the BOM website is not "validated data" it is coming directly from the automatic weather stations.
Here is a coppy of the temperature recorded by the station during the gust:

Date /Time Temp
29/06:35am -
29/06:29am -
29/06:28am -
29/06:27am -
29/06:24am -
29/06:21am -
29/06:20am -
29/06:18am -1.5
29/06:17am -
29/06:15am 50.2
29/06:14am -1.4
29/06:00am 12.0

The fact that the temperature is not recorded during that time and towards the and of the period the temperature is recorded 50 deg!!! point to some problems with the data logged.

So, in conlusion, do not believe it was a gust like that!!
