I met Alex when I was travelling past, nice guy, even lent me his kites to try. Not sure what all the fuss is about. I heard stories about local shops trying to kick him out. Sad.
Alex is a good guy.
oh Aaron. you simply must get to know him and kiting a little better. He's shameless self promotion and consistently unsafe kiting practices combined with his arrogant attitude are damaging to the sport and clearly linked to (and pretty much solely responsible for) bans around my area.
I got no links to any shops or products at all.
I myself tried to overlook his cocky nature when I first met him and demoed one of his trainer kites. I was impressed by his enthusiasm and his years of experience. I knew nothing about kiting before meeting him except that I wanted to try it...He fed me his thoughts on the sport as facts and I had no reason to disbelieve. I left considering his suggestion of buying one of his 4m foils (no depower, not really that similar to most kite surfing kites at all) and one of his landboards and heading to shopping centre rooftop car parks to practice as he suggested. But decide that he was only the first guy i talked to and that i really wanted to kite surf not do the other crap even though he said that only the elite wake boarders and surfers with kite flying experience can do it and that i would need to buy his crap first.
Luckily my research resulted in me getting 2 Proper kitesurfing lesson. I learned/ soon realised that he's for the best part, full of it. Looking back now I realise how lucky we were to get land kiting banned at Kirra and kiting banned altogether on some beaches at Byron. Even though they are both super awesome spots. Lucky that is that it happened before he hurt anyone or others followed his lead and hurt people. The guy is dangerous. (it is possible that he means well BUT) He's out of touch with what it safe and respectable kiting practice. He's been everywhere and thinks he knows everything. Thinking you know everything is always dangerous especially when combined with behaviours that place yourself and others at risk.
I want kitesurfing allowed and landboarding allowed and Alex to wake up to himself or get his gear and business licence taken off him. Last time I saw him he was completely unsafe.
