Think I would rather land there than trawl myself in the water for 6 hours!

Very luck fellas indeed. Few Tiger sharks up there, don't want to be mistaken for a turtle.

Wonder how they go split up?

Anyone confirm if it was kiters or not? The fact they were both 60 makes me think they'd have to be windsurfers

reminder for peoples to review dept of transport regulations now in place for kiters and windsurfers

Kiters and Windsurfers are required to carry safety equipment in accordance with the WA marine laws. Ensure safety equipment is in good working condition and is easily accessible.Within protected waters (except Lake Argyle) or within 400 metres of the shore in unprotected waters, no safety equipment is required.Between 400 metres and 2 nautical miles from shore in unprotected waters a lifejacket and an in date inshore distress flare kit or a registered EPIRB/personal locator beacon (PLB) must be carried.Between 2 and 5 nautical miles a lifejacket and an in date registered EPIRB/PLB must be carried.Over 5 nautical miles a lifejacket and an in date offshore distress flare kit and an in date registered EPIRB/PLB must be carried.Familiarise yourself in the operation of safety equipment.

not that i have seen anyone taking any notice;-)

And with those rules you'll exclude 80% of kiters, gnarloo isn't your local beach, loss or lack of wind or kit or rider error can be unforgiving

Not sure where they expect all that stuff to be stored while kiting. Not that I'm more than 400m out very often. Might have a backpack if you're off on a big down winder. My board lacks in under deck storage otherwise

Apparently they were kiters. One was rescued on the shore, the other out to sea when he activated his EPIRB at 10:00pm.

Don't assume. Lots of kiters out there well over 60.

Well if it was windsurfers doesn't look like they're talking about it.

Would like to know what happened, as the wind didn't go offshore that day and if they were out at tombies it's a long way to miss Gnaraloo bay and end up at Warroora and one of them had a beacon. Sounds like they had big plans that went wrong, or what?

Too much of a coincidence? I've not been up there since I was ten years old so I don't know the lie of the land?
