Hi crew,
Does anyone know this guy ,lone downwinder in a ENEaster 12-18kts on a TTip Aqua Blue Neo 9-10m?.Too far out to check size.
Started Way upwind north towards Black Rock from Shark Bay,NSW.We were foiling corner southern end.
I last saw him kite past Woody Head.
Then my kiting buddy in Yamba Pippie Beach sited him 2-3klms out to sea with a thunderstorm approaching, wondering whether to call authorities, maritime.
Which he did.
This guy was kiting way out to sea last seen going wide 1-2 Klms past Angourie.Diving his kite a fair bit.
Just thought I would put it out there if anyone knows this lone downwind kiter dude with a death wish.

Nothing on the news about the lone downwinder dude so probably made his destination.
Wishful thinking.

Lone downwinder update. This dude is doing a personal challenge apparently.Started further north say Evans Head or even Byron Bay.Two days ago we saw him way out to sea going past Angourie and ended up apparently Sandon River before dark.
2020 9m aqua blue neo on TwinTip.
unsure whether he has support crew but would assume he does.
His challenge apparently is to downwind to Sydney.
Bit hard down winding into a southerly for the next few days.
If someone crosses his path ask him wtf.LOL

I read that he was attempting to set a world record and kite to Melbourne. He left somewhere around Byron I think. A friend sent me a newspaper clip on the guy, 35 year old dude named Brian Kiss von Soly. He hopes to do it in 40 days. Pretty epic.

Here's the article - pretty crazy without on water support but i guess it's not solo with support. www.echo.net.au/2021/01/brian-aims-for-kite-surfing-record/

here's his Garmin track - share.garmin.com/8M6E5

Didn't Mr Young do Perth to Exmouth, further than 1300km?

How Devo is old mate going to be when he finishes and realises that it's not a record. 14 years in the making for nothing, bahaha!

Given that to set a world record everything has to be documented and ratified, I'm sure he is aware of what the current world record is.

From what I can see the current world record is 865 kms over 3 days.

I remember him using a tracker because I used to follow him. It was a mega effort and all for a good cause too, absolute legend!

Thanks for sharing his info.
Huge personal challenge.
The season has changed up here to LaNina.
Low pressure troughs persisting along the nsw nth coast and Qld.
Which means south to southeast winds & rain with the occasional North Easter Seabreeze in between.
These conditions will make his challenge much more difficult.Having to tack into the southerlys.
Good luck dude.
Itsa huge effort which ever way you look at it.

Brian the lone downwinder has reached Botany Bay Sydney.Covered some good Klms in the last week.
Has had favoured Seabreeze North easters.
Can track his progress on his Garmin tracker watch app above.
