Am I reading that right? Jet skis don't need it but a kiter and poley do?

Plenty of under deck storage on my twin tip for all the gear. From looking at the rest of the survey jet skis and kiters are mixed up.

Deffo worth responding to. I think they have mixed up the current legislation. Am pretty sure you don't need an anchor and oars on a kiteboard at the moment. Though I can think of a few crew for whom it may be handy.

^^^
it was the question about whether or not kiters; windsurfers & SUP's should carry a "fire extinguisher" that got me.

DoT has done some reasonable, albeit contentious work regarding PFD's & on water safety with Surf Life Saving WA & WAKSA over recent years.

The authors of that survey showed their ignorance & contempt for kiters, poleys & SUP crew by asking some remarkably stupid & arrogant questions. DoT & the authors got responses from me pointing that out. What might have been a productive process certainly has IMO, to a degree, shot itself in the foot.

Meh! One for foilers to worry about. And who cares about foilers?

I think just the windsufers should carry flare, bucket, PFD, fire extinguisher, anchor and oars as they have to go to the horizon and back to get back upwind to the take off spot,
and they have plenty of room on their boats to carry it all.
They like to call themselves real sailors , so they should comply to the sailing rules. No??

Much of the (non "boating") rules that are proposed are due to kiting deaths and the windsurfers are backing up the kiters, with a united front from WWA and WAKSA.
Some people can't stop being a knob though can they. Yeah the Govt / Dept Transport Marine etc don't read all this for info.... as if.

I'm sure they do... but cmon... bailing devices? anchors?

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/General-Discussion/Chat/WA-lifejacket-review-link-original-statement-and-survey-?page=1#2

For Bailing device sail/kite boards are lumped in with motorboats but paddlecraft are exempted until they are 400m from shore.

Its shows an astounding ignorance of the facts for something so obvious (that they should have more than a passing interest in) - how can we trust them with issues that are more nuanced?

Surely a misprint? Having said that KA had to argue to have new PFD laws that were a major risk for kiters reversed here in NSW last year. Get in early and make sure the regulators understand the practicalities before they legislate.
