Hi all,

I'm looking for a dedicated lightwind Twintip. Any advise on what's good? I have heard of the Airrush exile, Slingshot glide and the spleene door's, suspect there's others out there but have never ridden any. Have trouble finding any secondhand. I'm 85kg or so and normally ride a jaime pro.


If you are a shop guy and have a second hand board that would suit please PM me. I can work out freight if you are not local........

I've owned both the Exile and Glide. also 85 kg.

The SS Glide is a better flat water board IMHO.
If it's choppy water then the Exile would be the pick.

I can ride my glide in ankle slappers but you have to be on the ball.

Glide is the best out and out light wind board. The Exile is good but needs a bit more wind.
Exile is a lot easier to throw around if tricking.

I am 96 Kg ...

I agree with high as a kite ...

Glide is great for flat water ... when the water is glassy smooth , the Glide is absolutley magic....

I LOVE my Glide!!!!!

But, the Glide takes a bit of getting used to ... it is very loose ... and slippery, you need to maintain good balance ...
I can jump with it, but again... you need to land it perfectly otherwise you will fall .. the board just slips out from under you...

Once the wind picks up, then it is time to switch from my Glide, to either my Airush Exile, or Nobile 555, depending on how much the wind picks up ...

SLINGY GLIDE

I had an underground 144x46.. It was an awesome light wind board.. I think there called a zephyr or something.. I weigh 110 kegs and could get going in 10-12 knots on my 11. I bought it so i never had to pump up my 14 again

I (85kg)recently bought a slingshot glide, and can say that the ability of this board to get you going up wind when you should be sitting on the beach is amazing. This board gets you going in wind that is so light that you probably won't be able to relaunch if you drop your kite. I was out recently and the wind dropped off to sub 10knots. About 5 or 6 other kiters all had to stop and just try and keep their kites flying. I was still cruising!. This board is very "skatey", and does take some getting used too, I'm still getting used too it. Also as mentioned isn't great in choppy water, but as a board for riding on the edge of what is possible in light wind terms its hard to beat.

I also have a glide and have put bigger fins on it which has stopped that slippery feeling and makes it a bit easier in the waves. As long as you keep the nose up it rides the waves quite well too. When I go back on flat water I put the original fins back on and all you need is a good fart to get you going.

hey jono, what size fins did you put on it? I was thinking putting around 30-40mm could be good

When we were in the Cook Islands I had a crack on a 138 Underground Zepher. And for a guy that doesn't like the way Underground (namely FLX's) handle I was pleasently surprised. Stayed where you wanted it to and always felt like it was "engaged" even when you didn't edge the board. The new foot beds we're comfortable but I wasn't a fan of the way they worked with the straps -seemed the straps had to be alomost too tight to get your foot in or else the straps where too loose when you were sailing along.

I'm 107kg and was riding a 14m 08 Rebel. I needed about 13 knots of tropical wind to stay up wind - you you could probably equate that to about 11 knots or so in colder climates. Unfortunet that it doesn't come in a 140 or 142, but the 138 would be pretty good for someone your weight depending on kite sizes.

It comes in a 144x46 as well as the 138.

144 is just a bit big to travel with.

The Cardboard light wind board looks pretty good

Edit - I'm saying 140 because the Split level dakine bag is 140 long

and rides well as well .I was surprised how well they work in waves as well (40 mm fins .please note that i am a reseller of these boards

Bennie I put on 40mm fins but I got them made for me because the holes in the board were too small

I thought the small screws on the glide fins might be a problem. I wan't to put bigger fins on my glide. I think it will give me better grip for slashing turns and landing jumps what do you think? also do you notice having bigger fins affecting the light wind/ bottom end performance, I guess bigger fins would mean more drag, but I can't see it affecting bottom end very much.

Would you mind telling me where you got them made and how much?

I'd throw a Nobile EXT 666 ( or whatever the new model is) into the mix.

I am 100kg and ride a 10 and 13 Bandit. The EXT (139 x 46) is great in light wind with surprising perfomance once the wind picks up. Tracks upwind like its on rails. Its good but once the wind is up or if doing a downwinder I'll drop to a 133 Jimmy Lewis. I'm very happy with these kite and board combinations.

Jason from Briskites put me onto the Nobile EXT. I'd suggest you call him as he may have an EXT in stock otherwise George and Fiona at KSA Noosaville recently had some largish boards in their second hand fleet which may suit your needs.
