to be quite honest mate lessons are completely overrated and a complete waste of money, where im from (the big island) we teach ourselves and has it hurt me? i think not i shred even at 137 kg.
I can offer a few pointers however, nothing will help you more than practising jumping on land first, i suggest you find a clear spot like the woolies carpark (at night of course) the security guards are always helpful with a launch if not there between the flags at hillarys boat harbour is sweet and the life guards will usually pump up your kite. btw what kite you got cause i have a begginer "package" for sale includes 2002 14m rhino 195 jimmy lewis directional and some sweet fox kneepads $500 ono

Andrewm,

I don't know who does lessons there but take some good advice I got from Hold the Line Kites. If you want to reduce your number of lessons ($) and make them that much easier and enjoyable buy a two line stunt kite and learn to fly it well. It will cost you less than $60 bucks. If you are an expert with a two line kite well you are 80% of the way there.
