Hey all, anyone had any problem or experience with L5 facet joint tightening with muscle spasms? Use the majestic x hard shell and find it super comfortable, but wondering if I need to go seat harness on and off? Do heaps of jumping also. Do heaps of core stuff and stretching but it's just a ongoing problem. Any experience from kiter physio or any advice would be much appreciated.
cheers

Hey mate. I work with L4-L5, L5-S1 dysfunction in patients almost every day. Kiteing is probably the worst for your lower back. A seat harness may help. But one of the best things you could do out on the water would be to have your harness very tight, then on the inhale you want to expand your stomach (diaphragm breathing). On the exhaled keep the belly expanded. This is hard but it works.
This will allow you to develop intrinsic pressure and essentially makes your own airbag for your spine.
the pro surfers are now doing a lot of DNS (dynamic neural stabilisation) to make there core work the way they are supposed to. look up DNS.

good luck

Thanks mate, really appreciate that information. I will certainly look it up and do some research. Looks like a very interesting concept.I do a lot of meditation so understand the importance of breath work.

Before I had a microdiscectomy (L5S1) I found a waist harness almost impossible, initially used a seat harness and ended up using boardshort harness (Dakine I think) for a few years - post surgery its all been on waist harness
