I was kiting at Kurnell the other week and a retiree with pooch was yelling at me that I couldn't kite in the waters in front of dog beach. I was atleast 8m away from shore. I didnt set foot onto the beach which I know is a designated dog beach.

F* off, just because you live there you can't tell people how to use public waterways. In the Weekdays there's at most one person on that beach. This is the worse case of misery guts.

When you're old and can't kite you might be cranky to

All you can do in these instances is give them a big grin, wave and shout hello - and keep kiting as you were

8m away from shore. So your kite was over the beach by about 15m scaring the bloke and his dog.

if I was a member of the public not understanding kitesurfing, I too would be worried.

When your kiting on NSW water ways you are technically classed as a water craft so all boating rules apply ie speed, restricted areas and distance from people. If the water police feel so inclinded they can fine you although uncommon be aware.

Its appears quite clearly there is a designated kite area and dog beach area which would have been made for non kiting public safety . From previous incidents and public complaints to council about kites in the area. However if no one was around I would do the same .

I would avoid kiting anywhere near the dog beach all together, it's super shallow and dogs can come run at you in the water.... Best to stay out of trouble, we don't want to lose our access to the Kurnell Catamaran Club beach.
