We are working on a sign as we speak but asking everyone in the mean time to help spread the word and let those not playing safely know its not ok ????

I just came back from Exy yesterday. Indeed, when it was windy, Wobiri was crowded with kiters, and it was really dangerous to swimmers or surfers.

On the other hand, it is good to put the FB post into context. From my experience of kite-holidaying there in the past 14 years, I say the wind at Ningaloo is usually up only for a few hours (if at all) even in the best day, and in those few hours the rolling brakes and the currents at Wobiri are not safe for children anyway.

Most of the times, Wobiri is an undisturbed paradise for children and family with much cleaner and more predictable breaks. For those windy afternoons (kiteable about 50-70% of times) there are many safer alternatives for children and family, if, for any reason they want to experience turbulent waters.

To add to my last comment the area of concern isn't even a good place to kitesurf anyway, there is a wind shadow caused by the hedland upwind, this actually shelters the surf break somewhat and in turn makes the wind really dodgy close to shore. Its simple, launch 50metres upwind, head out to sea and stay well clear of anyone in the water, thats all we are asking

Obviously, I am not your adversary and I did not either "belittle" your concerns, or gave "miss information".

If you've read the post, I gave a different view point which considered both sides of your "concerns", i.e. kiters and beach goers.

In no occasion I've seen Wobiri as such a great surfing spot in strong SW, but I've never thought of paddling out in a kite-able SW wind anyway. So my opinion is not based on a lot of experience... perhaps yours is... not sure. Do you surf there in kite-able winds?

Then you say, the spot is not good for kiting.... well, what were those over two dozens of kiters (30% of them expert riders) doing there just a few days ago in that 20kn+? Are they also victims of "miss information".

BTW launching 50m upwind of beach goers, what you seem to suggest as a solution, is dangerous... and a bit unusual advice from an instructor. 50m downwind would make more sense.

Overall, of course, there needs to be a win-win situation where kiters, surfers, beach goers are all happy and respect each other, but that should be on a reasonable and balanced consideration of all parties. Yes, I want to go there kiting for another 30 years.

Wobiri is probably one of the most popular beaches for locals to take their kids for the first surf, go for swim or paddle around

Generally kiters rig up a bit up wind of the shelters and head out the back for the break, stay out and only come in to pack up.

Thats the routine, staying on the inside is probably dangerous for all involved as the wind is totally gusty to the point of the kite just dropping out and then powering up again.

Probably pointless posting any warnings here and also my own response.

As a local Exmouth resident I would have thought you could get a handle on the situation.

Have you been to Wobiri recently? The dynamic of the beach use has changed this season, its now arguably the busiest wind sport beach on its day. Your correct the majority of kiters are using this launch area as an access point and pose no risk to other water users. However there are a growing number of crew kiting in the general break frequented bu surfers and swimmers, and yes you are correct the wind is extremely ****ty in there and kites are falling from the sky, unfortunately this doesn't seem to deter those involved.

Look guys I'm really not trying to but heads with anyone here, there is a problem, local families and kiters have approached me and asked if we can help spread the word on this issue, I'm not regularly at Wobiri and have no right to police the beach so am asking everyone to just play fair, safe and just think responsibly. There are way better locations to play in 1 foot waves that don't endanger other beach users, make no mistake if we as a kiting community don't fix this ourselves complaints will leapfrog us and head straight to authorities, this will inevitably result in the banning of kitesurfing from Wobiri.

The bottom line is that children/families have priority and right of way. No need to prove your kiting prowess in front of kids who don't care if you can boost of a 2/3 foot wave next to them. Additionally, you drop your kite in the swimming/surfing spot there is a great chance of injury to one of these kids/family members.

Unfortunately the Covid has seen Exmouth becoming increasingly more popular and common sense and logic will not grow at the same rate as the kiting fraternity.

Thanks for making this statement public, unfortunately not everyone will read it, but those who have have the responsibility to look after the sport by telling any irresponsible kiters to p1ss off if they attempt to take these unnecessary and dangerous risks.

Some downwinder kiters in Perth go through flagged areas all summer . Its a Perth disease .Not being a flagged lifesaver beach appears to have less authority and gives some kiters an invitation to do as they please at your beach.

Nah, decided to by pass Exmouth a few weeks back as Coral bay had reported 5000 punters and the beach emitting smell not dissimilar to Kuta, well must have been the same punters. Then not being able to pull into BB Roadhouse with cars spilling out on to the HW. An endless line of 4x4s with every plastic toy imaginable on the roof, a customer of mine told me it's chockers , over flow camping on Exmouth oval, I decided to carry on up the road.
I reckon you are the first to complain in your neck of the woods with every one else rubbing their hands due to all the cash flow and those kiters or maybe they were wingwangers at Wobiri are on job keeper trying to spend some cash they normally would be spending overseas.
So this is just the new normal, for a while at least.

Hmmmmm, oh dear. Another popular spot infiltrated by the "watchme" movement. That first sight of someone staring at you in awe is definitely a afrodisiac, even if they are calling you a complete wan#ker. Hard to read lips when you're concentrating on your next 2 meter megga boost.

i had to go to exmouth for work at the start of the month. headed up on a sat and overnighted at Billabong and the rest area was full. The amount of 4wd towing a big boat and vans heading north was ridiculous. I ended up staying at bullara station 90km south of exmouth as i couldn't get accomodation anywhere in exmouth and this was end of august. It's farken crazy up that way at the moment.

Why is it overcrowded with COVID ?
No interstate travelers apparently?Allowed in.
No overseas visitors?Or very few.
Are they all going north from within your state?
If there was no Covid wouldn't that dramatically increase the numbers.?
In our Iluka Yamba area we are being smashed by tourists from Qld & NSW right now people are on the move in this October holidays.
Qld just relaxed their borders to 150klms into NSw north coast but Qld's are coming down further because they can't police it.
Its seems pretty flakey.

No international or interstate travel so WA locals are stuck at home, no Bali trips. So if you want some warmth you got to head north hence busy Exmouth.
