That time of the year again, days are getting longer and summer is around the corner. I am chasing some decent sunnies to wear on the water. I read last years posts and recommendations and was hoping to get more ideas on possible new models.

The issue I have however is that I have a big head and my most recent purchase of seaspecs means the base of the frames sits right in mid eye sight and is aggravating. Was looking at specs amphibians, as the frame on these looks fairly big but I am not sure of the goggle appearance and looking like I am going to swim a few laps.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Cut glad wrap to about 15cm wide and wrap it around your face. Lightly spraypaint with the tail light blackening paint from Repco / Supercheap.

I haven't read last years thread, but safety glasses from the hardware store go pretty well, frameless, good range of view, and there cheap which is great when you lose them

Check out ecky floatable sunny's. I use these. If I crash, they just float beside you. And they are Australian

I know WA surf had some ION sunny on special, half price a while back.

I have a pair and am pretty happy,. interchangeable lenses, hole with click on strap and they also look pretty cool.

Mate here's another option for you, ten bucks from surf shop and you can "amphibiounise" any land sunnies (in this case a pair of $3 reject shop shades of which I bought five pairs as discardables but the first pair have lasted about six months now). Aswell they float with the strap up so its real easy to cruise past and snag them if they come off.

yeah that's what I do. Buy some cheap sunnies and slap a $3 neoprene strap around the back.

+1 for the shatterproof safety sunnies from the hardware. At $10-20 you won't be too upset if you lose them occasionally. For a few more $ they even come in polarised these days if you want real luxury.

Do safety glasses even block the sun rays?

Does it matter if they block out the rays you can get a pair ( EYES ) in Bali now ( maybe not ) 2 new kites $ 4,500 new board $ 1,000 harness $ 350 and a pair of **** sunnies that do F!@# ALL 4 $10.

I've always used my sailing sunnies from GILL which float. Although some do let water go in underneath.

Mm... not too bad for hydropbobic etc. Saw some I liked that someone had won in a comp, and looked them up online: €280.

I got some of the $25 jobbies off eBay but I'll have to figure out the Rain-X solution for them... hassle.

The only non-polarised surf sunnies I could find online were through Seabreeze... and Kitepower... (but they charged for shipping.)

Have to say, the Seabreeze service was top notch - had them at my door a day or two later.

I wouldnt be wearing polarised sunnies in the surf - I cant judge distance or chop or pretty much anything with polarised lenses for some reason...

Aren't you a resident of Heavy Weather forum? How did you escape?

I am after prescription sunnies actually. Sick of OPSM and majors. Even so called Budget specs are a rip off (>$700).
Any other recommendations for us old kooks?

I just use the Cancer Council Polaroid type from any chemist. Get the wrap around style, which protects your eyes from side glare, and buy a neoprene floating strap and for around $50 and you have really good protection, plus they don't seem to fog up.

Seaspecs for $50 non prescription and $195 for single vision are hard to beat! Comfortable, cut the glare and don't fall off. RainX stops them fogging and beads the water too. How much are your eyes worth?

Seaspecs have a new line out, they look like normal wrap around sunglasses with a vent at the side. They actually look good but I'm not liking the vent design as it largish vent, looks like sunlight can leak in.

Rain-X is supposedly only for glass. You can get stuff for motorbike helmet visors that's formulater for polycarbonate... I don't see how it's hurt though.

The biggest issue I have is not water or fog, but the gunk that gets left behind, like dust in the water...

I just wandered into my first local surf shop and they had them. I thing I saw them at Freo SUP shop, but assuming that most stores have them.

Rain X has a solvent that eats coatings on sunglasses. They do a version for plastic. What I meant was can't be too good for your eyes if it transfers from your glasses to your eyes.

People use cat crap for fog.

The Oakley product is supposed to repel water and oil which sounds good for seawater gunk and suncreen. The last time I checked it was $60 retail in oz.
