Before we all go shooting our mouths off, how about we all settle down and sort some facts out first.

Yet it seems WAKSA choose to run high risk competitions in waters with extended shallow beaches with no expert medical people or equipment at the event. Surely as at other extreme sports we should have an ambulance and professional people at the event ready to respond on the spot should the need arise.
There was a first aider on at the time of the big air competition, it was me. I was a volunteer who gave up my time. I was there standing behind the judges till the finish.
I am a current metro based paramedic 7yrs experience. Sitting next to me was another paramedic 11yrs experience.
WAKSA could not afford $1500 for an ambulance on standby which would have been sourced from Port Dennison subcentre with non paid Volunteers in attendance. Darren was up and kitesurfing within a few minutes, an ambulance would not have helped and was not needed.
People must call, present or make 1st aiders, Paramedics, Dr's, Nurses aware for them to help this was never done.

I saw Darren regain his feet and he was obviously concussed but I still remained in the crowd as I expected that qualified people would soon be at his aid with appropriate equipment.
Duty of care doesn't just belong to WAKSA who i feel satisfied everything, it belongs to bystanders and helpers as well! You knew he wasn't right you just stated it why did you let him continue? Did you report it to WAksa Staff to get Darren looked at after he finished?
Darrens fall was about 100m down the beach from the SLSC where we were.
From 100m away no one could tell he was ? Unconscious. Within a quarter of the time it would have taken me to get down there there were multiple people with Darren and another 15 running down the beach at no time was the words unconscious bandied around.
From where we were it looked as though his board was caught in his lines and he couldn't control the kite until much closer bystanders helped out.
From where we were we witnessed about 5 fairly big hits that afternoon. We did not run into the water every time someone hit the water hard neither did anyone else.
Within 2-3 minutes he was back on his board and jumping.
Why was Darren allowed to continue by those helpers?
If Darren had of been helped to the shore I would have made myself known.
Why is this post the 1st i am hearing about this?
With respect to you Darren who i know and have had lessons with is this being made such a big deal because it was Darren involved?
Darren puts a big target on himself with his school, sponsorship and involvement in this forum which is all positive as far as i'm concerned.
When others took a big hit all i heard was giggles and ooohhhhs, when Darren hit the water the mood was very different.
I am not chasing answers to all the questions I have posted but would like all to have a little think about it.
As for you BarryDawson my reply is not personal so please don't take it that way. When you posted this thread you wanted answers and hopefully i have helped a little and given you and others food for thought.
