Hey all

I'm working on a tracking app for surf sports (surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and SUP). The main idea is that you will be able to track your surf sessions with your smartwatch and sync them to your phone.

hope you can come up with a decent app for kitesurf. I use a garmin and currently use the running or walking app, just to show time, speed and a map to look at afterwards.

The touchscreen on the garmin vivoactive 3 HR watch is terrible while surfing and the splash of water onto the screen seems to change the screens randomly. So I don't use it for surfing at all.

I have an older Garmin forerunner and use the connect app. I really like the mapping view.

I use a Garmin Fenix 3 and use the standard recording functions. I made a custom app called kiteboarding and view the data in the Connect web page.

There's one thing I would really like in an app. The ability for the app to automatically create laps based on turning around, or crashing and restarting. That would work by a change of direction of a certain number of degrees and continuing for a distance, or simply a stop or slow down to a threshold speed followed by a start.

The other thing that would be nice is some way of determining maximum speed. I am thinking that would be the maximum average speed within a lap over a number of seconds. Currently I can get maximum speed (which is usually BS) and average and moving average. I don't have a lot of faith in any of these.

Thanks for your feedback Gorgo!

The ability to track the number of tacks is something i have already planned.

To avoid unreliable max speeds, it will be measured as the fastest 2 second speed.

I use the Sessions App on my Apple Watch too. So far in my opinion the best feature app but the development and support stopped in 2018 I think. One feature I would like on the home screen of such an app is the session time. I.e. how long have you been out kiteboarding in mins hrs.
